hey guys, i tried searching but didnt really come up with what i was lookin for. im just lookin for some info on the 200 lifan motors.im buiding a 200x for my dad and instead of tryin to save the thrashed motor it looks like it will be more cost effeciant and reliable to just toss in a 200 lifan. he could also use the electric start scince his knees and all arent what they used to be. my main questions are is the 200 lifan motor just like a 200x with electric start? like manual clutch, 5 speed and all. also im sure i read that the chinese motors are good if left alone and u dont want to modify them(whitch i dont). is this true? finally, im not quite sure were to go to order the engine. like should i go to ebay(rather not). or is there a site i can get them stright off of?

Thanks in advance, Dalton

i have this same motor,it is fine.i put mine in an atc 185s.the only thing youll have trouble with is the rear kick start.if using the electric start it wont be a problem.will bolt right in.make sure you use the 200x carb mount not the lifan one.

Hi there Dalton. There are 2 versions of the motor: there's OHC and OHV (pushrod engine). If you can, go with the OHC, it's a little harder to find (I think Hooper Import has them). Then there the sprocket, the one that comes with these engines is NOT for a 520 chain but a 428, in other words, it won't fit the 200X chain and you MAY have an alingment issue, you MAY or MAY NOT. If you do, youll need the very expensive "wonder sprocket". Make sure you use the right one.

E-bay has the best prices on these motors that I have seen, but only for the OHV, nobody on there seems to have the OHC. If you don't want to buy it from e-bay, you'll probably pay a lot more That's really your call. Get yourself the corect wiring, fab something for a batery (some people put it inside the stock airbox) and you should be rolling.

The engines are good and almost bulletproof from what I have read and 99% of whoever has them are very satisfied with them. For less than the price of repairing your old 200X engine (great engine I must say) you can get yourself a brand NEW one. And that my friend, you can't beat.

This is e-bays Lifan. You'll be shocked at the price difference betwen e-bay and hooper imports: http://http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LIFAN-200CC-5-SPD-ENGINE-MOTOR-MOTORCYCLE-DIRT-BIKE-ATV_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5885f9b38cQQitemZ38 0204856204QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Most of the time e-bay can be your friend.

Dr. ATV also has some parts (mostly for the smaller lifans) and good info.

Hope this helps a bit.

its true you have to get a new front sprocket, but you should put new chain and sprokets on anyway.i found a place that sells the correct sprocket for the usual cost

thanks guys this is a big help. wiring isnt a problem because i have a freind who is in electro mechanical at our local tech school and need a senior project. so hes offerd to build me a new wiring harness for my 200x and a wiring harness for my project x whitchever way i go with it. i just wanted to amke sure it was close to a 200x feel when riding just having the advantage of electric start and the fact that it a brand new engine so my dad wont have get stuck out on the trails. also if i buy him a brand new engine then i have a whole basket of engine parts that i can save as spares for my bike lol.

P.S. thanks for not getting agrrivatted at me because i relize this is a pretty common question for the forums but i can never seem to find exactly what i need in the serches. ive prettymuch decided on getting the engine instead of tryin to pice back together my basket case motor and just wasnt sure wear to start looking for one.

Thanks again, Dalton
