I have a chance to buy a honda 200s from a friend. He had the oil drained and forgot and started it.He says it only ran for mabey 45 seconds before he realized it.He was cleaning it up to sell and changeing the oil. I listened to it run....it dosent smoke. I can here a little noise but mabey im listening to hard and just hearing things? What do you think?

i think its gonna be fine, 45 seconds doesn't give it much time to get hot and all the left over residue is plenty of lube for 45 seconds. Id still buy it, maybe try to get the price dropped 50 bucks  hahaha. but yeah dont worry about it, i take it the 45 seconds it was running it was at idle right?

I agree...45 seconds = no problem, but yeah...go for the $50 off.

I had a 400ex run for 3 hours with no oil, piton went bad but nothing a bore couldn't fix. My 200s, is a champ. I heard stories after i got it, that it used to be jumped into a lake. Spark plug pulled, and pulled over a few times, then they kept driving. 22 years of that kinda abuse, until it had an electrical problem and I sold it.

Honda's are champs. It's the only thing that can take my abuse my friend.

Any problem at that time scale would be in the head, won't hurt the bottom much. Ifi it don't smoke or make any weird valve noises, I wouldn't be worried, but would try to talk him down, ya never know! :D

That's actually good to know, that you could run it that long without major damage! i would've thought you'd ruin it within a few seconds....not that I'm planning on trying it, but it sounds like some scatterbrained thing I would do.

If it was actually rode it would be a different story, but just at idle it wont hurt anything in that short of time, like everyone else said.

well i had an oil pump go bad on a yamaha warrior, top end started squeaking and after we got it fixed she smoked real bad and needed piston rings to say the least, but still ran 100% fine. look for smoke (blue smoke once its fully warmed up) and you could always tear the top end off and check around. i know how the feeling of not being 100% confident with your machine.
