Is this going to cause hot spots? There are chunks missing out of the head all over and a couple pieces of aluminum or some type of metal are stuck to the head.A few of the chunks missing are pretty deep. I'm worried about using this on an engine i'm about to dump a bunch of money into.

Personally, I would run it. There may be some people on here that have run something like this before and can chime in.

From what I have read and heard, those gashes will create hot spots which will cause preignition, detonation, or pinging. This will create more damage to the inside of the cylinder head and piston crown. Your best bet would be to take some emery cloth to it to smooth out the roughness.

I wouldn't, Might be able to clean it up. ( I think Ronnie does this type of work )

Do a search ...

Y'know, on a second look I don't think I would run that. It probably wouldn't be too hard to smooth out.

With the right set up on a lathe.....you can spin it out!

my buddy's banshee was like this, he smoothed out the chunks that stick out with a drummel. runs perfect

Lower end bearing failure is what caused that damage.... If you smooth it out it should be ok, but recutting it in a laythe would be the best way to fix it. Or just find another good head. I would really tear into the bottom end if that head came off the motor like that...

yeah, theres some cheap stuff on ebay, thats what i would do if it was mine.

It could probably be run, and could be fixed but I personally wouldn't run it at all. The question is, is it worth fixing? A machine shop is gonna charge you way more than a nice head head would cost. Unless you know a machinist, or it is a rare piece.

Ronnie, AKA Yamahondaman, can definitely fix this for you. Cheap if I remember right. Contact him. Here is some work he did for me.

I've seen a bunch of Ronnie's work (mostly parts that he machined) and its top notch!

I may contact you too Ronnie. We're building that motor in my T3 that I had at Raffa's so once we have it all figured out I might have you re-chamber the head to get the right squish band.

Cool. Let me know if you need a head to use to make the fixture up, I have an extra one here. I don't see my being ready for a rechamber until late spring at the earliest. We're going to build this thing right and show everyone what you can do with a little power valved 250 on race gas.

I Still have BigGreenMachine's head .. i need to make the fixture like i did for the 81 CR250 and Billy's 500.. the TRI-Z is easy cause i use part of the Banshee Jig to hold it ... the WORST one was for the 1985-89 TRX-ATC... cause of the top water spigot thingy

Well just let me know if you need any motor parts for research purposes. I have plenty of T3B engine stuff here.

I sent my last head to Eric Gore in Wisconsin! I asked for 180 to 190 psi, I got it back and it pumps 150! He spun it like the tr-z design, but took to much out! Guess it isn't so bad though, it runs hard on pump!
