I am just wondering what are some good worth while mods for this bike. Because I am buying one for 100$ :naughty: that needs crankshaft seals.

Or..... If you are a crafty tuner, you can just run a stock port '85' nicasil cylinder and give most any 250cc engine a serious second guess. My stock motored 85 (ice bike) is in fresh state, but really gits it out of the hole. That particular engine has nothing but a replacement 34mm round Mic, DG exhaust, and Boyesen reeds. Thats it. My other Tecate is a bit higher strung being assembled with various KX pieces. But, there is nothing exotic about it. It really gives people fits! After playing this game for many years, my conclusion is that most people simply don't know how make everything work together, and then get the tune right!

^ Shorty, how can you be asking about motor mods when the bike isnt even in your garage, and needs rebuild work to begin with? Have you ever ridden a 3 wheeler, two stroke three wheeler at that? The tecate is not for the faint of heart, and will hurt you EASILY if you get cocky with it, and ride too fast. The power delivery goes from mild to wild like the flick of a lightswitch, and when that happens you beter hold on!! I thought I was a badass when I was 16 or so and bought my tecate. The first thing I did was flip it over backwards by hammering on the gas, with no grab bar, that hurt. A months later I had a real bad crash, rolling it in 5th gear pinned through a snow bank. Years later, I let my brothers friend ride it who said he had ridden MX bikes before, and could handle it. Needless to say, he almost died. He had the throttle pinned in panic, and rolled it just before hitting a grain bin. He had no helmet on, and ripped his elbow so far open that I thought he was going to bleed to death. The doctor in the ER said if the cut was 1/4 inch lower, it would have hit his artery, and he would have died in minutes! Im not saying the machine is unsafe, but you better know what you are doing, and be ready to make some quick decisions. I have owned it for about 7 years, and it still scares me to this day! Fix the motor before doing any mods, and see what you think of it, and decide what you are going to do with it (drag, trail,mx, etc) I mainly use mine for light trail riding, gravel pit riding, and whooping the crap out of anything that comes in its way. I have beaten a fully modded 440ex, slight mod banshees, and all kinds of dirtbikes. My tecate is bone stock except for a dirtbike muffler, and boysen power reeds. Good luck, and post some pics!
