You better beleive i want one!!!! Maier still make shrouds and fenders?
Maier does not make fenders or shrouds for 86 Tecate. Besides you can get OEM fenders new still that are better than maier and cheaper. Better hurry up though before they get discontinued too!! For shrouds Hornetpowersports makes them. Believe it or not you tank is much better than alot of the ones out there, treat it nicely.

I bet they are in great shape? What's with that comment? It doesn't really matter the shape they are in because they can be brought back to life through wet sanding. The problem with the second gen tanks is the hardware for the rad shrouds spins in the tank and there really is no cure for it. I was guessing when I said 10 tanks, it may be seven or eight. I have two red ones, one of which is pristine. I would gladly take a pic, but my garage is under construction (thread in the open forum) and all my parts are in storage. Not to mention I'm not crazy about your doubting me when you have no idea who I am.

I talked to them at the dealer expo also and asked the the same question ,I think I said that I had heard a cruel and vicious rumor and needed to know if it was true or not and like ATC-Eric stated it's no joke. They told me about 2 week's ago now I guess that it would be about 2-3 week's on the green tanks for the 1st generation '84-'85 and in a month and half or 2 month's they would have the 2nd generation tank's.Now they did'nt specifically tell me that they were gonna be in multiple color's but then again I did'nt ask,but I know for sure they said green.I also talked to Maier and all the Tecate 1st generation rear fender's are gone, done .caputz, history & when I asked why they said they did'nt sell enough unit's to justify making them anymore. As far as price's we never talked about that which I sholda asked but I was so geeked up about even getting a new tank I forgot to ask,my bad ...

Gents, after seeing this thread I sent and email the Clarke Manufacturing and asked if I could order an 86/87 tank. The email I received back today stated the following:
This is not correct
We are going to make the older 84-85 model KXT first. Should be ready in 6 weeks or less
Thanks
Chris
I'm grateful that he replied, but judging by that response, the 86/87 tank is still not a done deal just yet. I hope you boys go and buy lots of 84/85 tanks and hopefully we will see an 86/87 tank into the future some time.....
P.S. I think the overflow bottle/coolant tank is a waste of effort. Surely there are other coolant tanks out there that are of a similar shape. Unlike a fuel tank, coolant tanks are not integral to the looks or function of a machine

Sorry...I disagree. If there were other coolant tanks out there that are of a similar shape....those of us that are in need of them....and there are many...would have found them and be using them by now.
Yes...they ARE integral to the looks and function of a machine. Maybe not all the time...but running sand drags in 100+ degree heat uphill.....if it boils over....coolant on the ground. Not good. Not environmently friendly. If it boils over w/the bottle in place...coolant stays in the bottle, not on the ground and when the engine cools down after sitting say over nite...coolant is drawn from the bottle back into the rads.

While I'm all in favor of a company making anything that is currently NLA....I think Clark is missing the boat here. As of 2:30 em EST...there are 23 '84/'85 T3 tanks on E-Bay. All with 0 bids. Consequently...there is 1 '86/'87 T3 tank.
Seems to me that '84/'85 T3 tanks are fairly common.

Given the choice between a new fuel tank and an overflow bottle I'd take the Fuel tank any day. Thats what I meant when I was saying the overflow bottle was a waste of time, not that you shouldn't use one.
I guess Clarke are just banking on the fact that there are probably five times the amount of 84/5 Tecates out there than there are 86/7 models, but I agree with you on the missing the boat thing. I think there would be far more 86/7 getting resurrected if the infamous tank issue was solved.

I don't thing that we have to argue between us ( tecate guys) and i don't thing a wast of time anything that can be made reproduction for our trikes even if its most or less usauble in our trike. It's good to know that something is availiable even if we'll newer use it on our riding trikes.
Too sad that 86-87 gas tank are not available for now. Maybe in the USA the 84-85 tecates are more than the 86-87 but exactly the opposite thing happens to Europe, and maybe the rest of the world. Ebay can prove this! sellers that sell worldwide get higher prices on 86-87 tecate items they sell than others that sells only in the states.
Anybody asked what is the minimum number they want at Clark gas tanks to put in production line a 86 kxt gas tank? Maybe to start a group buy from this forum!

I don't agree with that 100%...86/87 guys do need a tank. but out of those 23 tanks on E-bay...How many are decent looking enough that you'd put em on a nice rider? Maybe 2? Guys...you're missing the point. Point is that there ARE '84/'85 tanks out there....IF you want to put a little effort into them. You're wanting new tanks for vanity reasons. Us '86/'87 T3 guys have to take what we can get....and they're far and few between.
Don't get me wrong...I'm all in favor of Clark building tanks for the '84/'85. I just think that their ROI would be greater making '86/'87 tanks instead....that's all

Yeah, I'm not saying they shouldn't make the A1-A2 tanks. That's great that they are. A lot of the tanks you see that look really bad just need a wet sanding and they'll be good to go. The B1-B2 tanks all have the issue with the hardware spinning in the plastic that is pretty much incurable.

I get what you're sayin...Nobody is suggesting they not make 86/87 tanks. If you think about it Clarke is likely banking on the fact that there are many more 84/85's out there to sell tanks to than the 86/87... I don't know what it takes to build a tank but given the numbers I'm not convinced the ROI would be any better for any years...Sheer numbers tells them to build the 84/85 first. What needs to happen is 84/85 guys buy a tank so they are more likely to take the risk on building the 86/87 tank if the 84/85 turns out to be a good seller... It could work both ways but my guess is the numbers aren't there for 86/87 to make Clark jump yet...

Trying to bring back color in any green tecate tank is an impossible task. The color is lost all the way through. Unlike a 85-86 R tank where under the oxidation is brilliant red. They are two completely different animals. Which is why you see so many on ebay. They are all subpar quality and a quick so called "sand & buff" does nothing but waste time, since there's no color to bring back. If it was so easy, why aren't all 86-87 tanks brilliantly colored? Cause the suffer the same process of degration. The ONLY difference is 2nd gens have brass inserts to deal with. That's it, and thats the gripe? Well that and the color sucks too.... Gees, downplaying a NEW product cause it isn't what I want first, is a foolish stand to take.

I think a lot of you guys are getting a bit out of hand with this. IT'S A GREAT THING THAT THEY ARE MAKING NEW A-1 and A-2 TANKS! I AM GLAD THEY ARE.
I personally do not need any first gen tanks and in owning both machines have found no issues at all with finding good first gen tanks. Second gen tanks are near impossible to find in good shape though. It doesn't matter how deep your pockets are.
I realize that the discolored tanks are discolored through and through. There are, however, plenty of sun bleached tanks that can be brought back through wet sanding.

You can wet sand through and through all day long and buff it. The surface will be shiny of course, but through and through means through and through! You can't polish a turd! I wet sanded for hours.....it looks shiny, but when the color is gone its gone! Dont know where, it but its gone! I want my color back, mother nature please help me........lol. First gen was around first, which means we have first choice. 2nd gens were around 2nd....which means just like on the drag strip, they will always be second fiddle! Doom is coming trikefest 2010........Can't we all just get along!

If Clark does in fact come through and make a first gen tank then I certainly hope that people will support them. If not then us 2nd gen guys will never have a chance. And if you compare both tanks it's a no brainer as to why they will do the 84-85 tank. For lack of a better term it is a simple design compared to the 86/87.
And since us 2nd gen guys are still dreaming how about a larger capacity tank as well.

The other question you have to ask is how many 86-87 owners need a whole new tank. Since I bought mine in 1999 I have made sure to coat any hardware that goes into my tank in anti-seize and they all go in and out without an issue so I'd only replace it for cosmetic reasons. Fortunately the tank cover I got from Mik makes it pretty again so I'd be out. I hope they make the tanks but I hope I don't need one. :)

I know a guy that just had a mold done for a vintage sled. 72 sno-jet thunderjet gas tank. Mold cost him $5K. It isn't very intricate either. So $15K may not be that far off.

That seems nuts to me. I'd sooner spend $1000 to have a custom aluminum tank made than spend $5000 on a mold to make a stock one but then again I'm not much for restoring. I prefer to restify.

I have a buddy who works for a machine shop that make's mold's for plastic car part's (Interior kick panel's, misc tail light lens's some really cool stuff that cost's huge money to make). Some of the mold's cost 50,000 and are 3-foot square block's of steel that seperate Into like 3 different section's. This guy make's the 3 dimensional shape of the part In the middle of the mold. It's friggin INSANE how much time goes Into some of these thing's.

What is easy to understand is these tanks even when broken sell for $300. Its supply and demand. He did a preorder all upfront and paid for the mold and got his tanks for free. Its just like classic cars. There is always some willing to pay the money. These hobbies are just the same.

Do you think a white tank will look funny with the green plastics and white number plate?

Thanks....I have been stalking them for 6 weeks now! I always talk to Chris....everytime I talk with him he says they are a week out! This time he said they will available the first week of March! Getting tired of the wait, but what choice do we have! It will be nice to mount that baby on there though! As soon as they are available I will post it!

I'll tell ya, the industry i worked for that closed the doors, I ran injection mold presses and made car parts. I know how to run those presses inside and out. I did it for years. I have always dreamed about this, and I mean I honestly would do it, if I ever won the lottery or something and became a millionaire, I would buy a couple old presses, and spend the money to get molds made for fenders, tanks, water bottles and shrouds for all years of Tecate 3's and i would just make it a hobby to make these items for myself and the Tecate guys and friends i have made here over the years just for the pure love of the Kawasaki Tecate. I really would. But, don't count on it because i don't think I'll be winning the lottery any time soon. Just a dream of mine.
Hearing about them producing these tanks is great news though. I hope they turn out right and that they get some 2nd gen tanks made in the near future as well.

Oh, and for the record, those prices that were given for the cost it takes to make molds is accurate and i'd even say under the cost. These molds are intricate and precision made and you have to be careful with them as well. It's quite a job to change the molds in the presses to run a different part etc. You need a forklift, a good knowledge of it and a lot of patience to make sure you handle them properly.

I've talked to him by e-mail as well to see what the hold up is. He told me they want them perfect tbefore they release them. That's totally understandable. He said he would send me an e-mail when they are available.

I seen the different colors, but what does the 'natural' look like, courious. It's kind of a "straw", or yellowish-white-opaque colored plastic. It's not a cool color at all, but it's real easy to see the fuel level through.

Actually you hit on a cool idea Red Rider. A clearish (or nearly see through) tank. Could put fake plastic fish and plant life in there. Excellent conversation peice.

probably the dent above the seat. The only thing making me wonder about these. If you have a Hi-Flite seat it is covered. stock seat it's there for you to look at everytime you ride it.

It means I would like to see pics of 10 tanks!
OK, it ain't 10, but there are 7 here. I have one on my trike right now and there may be one or two more floating around here somewhere...:wondering
And what's this dent everybody's talking about? I read through the older posts and nobody seems to get into details about it.

Here is the post from the Tecate groups.

He posted pictures of the first Clarke Teacte tank he got in the mail. I can't seem to find the pics he posted, but there was a large indention in the tank right above where the stock seat sits. With his Hi-Flite seat on it was covered.

I found the pictures of the side by side Clarke vs stock where you can see the dent.
http://www.3wheelerworld.com/album.php?albumid=382
As you can see my clark tank has no dent in it.
dcreel - The sticker was on the thick side but seems to be good quality. The only problem with it is all the holes. They have glue it each hole so dirt can stick in there. Only time will tell how well this will hold up and if I can clean the glue out of the little holes.
