I'm going to begin my search for a 200x, I owned a 85 new back in the day along with a 86 350x, I realize an 86 200x is the best choice, but they're not as common as the other years. Is there any year other than the 86 I should be looking for, or are they're any known problems with other years i should stay away from. Also, what would be a good price to pay for a clean 200x? I have started to look but they are all across the board, espically on EBay. Any help or insight would be great.

Thanks

Both machines have their downfalls. The 83-85 200x had a lot of problems with the chain tensioners, and used a wierd design, one on each side of the frame, connected to the same bolt as the swingarm piviot. The axle carrier was also not removabe in the first gen. The cam / head design on the 83-85 had some issues as well, but I wouldnt blame it if it lasted 25 years. The 86/87 200x had a better frame, and the chain tensioner is a LOT better. The 6 speed transmission dosnt seem to make it any faster in my opinion, but it seems more well balanced than the earlier years. The 86-87 are a lot harder to find parts for, and are also more expensive. The 83-85 parts usually come a dime a dozen, and performance parts are everywhere. These are just a few differences, the list could be endless. It depends on what you want to do with it.
