86 250r CDI/ Spark problems.

Hey guys, in the final steps of slapping my R together.


I am getting power from the stator, all the way to the CDI on the black/white wire.

The black/yella wire runs from the CDI to the ignition coil then to the spark plug boot.


I am not getting power from the black/yellow slot in the CDI, but I am getting power everywhere else on the 4 prong connector.\

Is it possible my CDI burned itself out? Will a new one fix this? Any ideas? Any questions just ask, I tried to explain the best I could.

Hahaha Yeah had this problem my self. Been pissing me off for 4 days. A little bit of red nceh engenering and a 83 atc 250r cdi boxc later. Found out it was the cdi box.

Im getting TONS of power going in, just nothing coming out!

use the one from your pop's trike as a tester.

try changing your frame color

Just got back off the r. Seems like it dosent have any power at top end. Must be the older cdi box.

I thought about that Mosh, but the 85's are a single system. The 86+ are a dual 4 and 2 prong connector.

anyways, swapped it with a buddys 86 TRX and she got a big ole bite to eat. Definetly my CDI box! Looking for one as we speak.

Hey kintore. Just because it has 2 plug ins dont mean it wont work. Just have to figure out what color the wires are. My r works fine now. Adjusted the carb and boom shes ready. Im going to hopefully pick up a 86 cdi later tho.
I dont give up to easily. Im stuborin to the core when it comes to trikes.

That R is not going anyplace. I am just about to purchase a big bore from ebay. Just nervous about buying a used motor
