My 1983 ATC 500 build

I bought this bike in a package deal with a 1984 Big Red for $300 neither of them ran. This trikes hubs were no good, plastics all broken and camo duct-taped together,The tank dented and bondo filled, the sat pan was rusted out and the foam deteriorated, had no headlight or tail light, was missing the carb, and all three wheels were rusty and leaked. That's the background info. This trike was sitting in my backyard for probably about a year and nothing was getting done to it. I have a lot of bikes including two Honda XR 500R's one of them becoming the heart donator. The 500 ran but smoked like a beast and 3 gear skipped! I took it out of the bike tore it down replaced the gear dogs with a set out of another 500 I had, and i bought a new set of rings (the ring gap in it was 200 thousandths! operating gap is 15-20 thousandths!). I disassembled the ATC down to the frame and began fitting the 500 into it. Some major alterations had to be done to the frame seeing as the 500R is so much bigger than the 200. Everything went pretty smoothly after the frame was altered, I made the motor mounts out of aluminum and polished them up, sanded down the tank, fixed the dents, primed and primed and primed it then painted it, painted up the forks, frame, and motor. The wheels were some trouble, I have many hours of sanding in them to get them looking as good as they do now. I had some chrome powder coat and decided to try it out....TURNED OUT SWEET! I ordered some hubs off Ebay ($12) and my buddy ltrfred gave me some 20x11x9 tires to run on the back, I had to go small so that i could kick it. Now that everything was painted up I started putting it all back together, it all looked good but it was missing something... a sweet round headlight! So i jacked one off a scooter I had, and right now I'm sharing a seat with my 1984 Big Red. I put it all together and still didn't have a oil tank (xr500 = dry sump) I bought a Honda 750 street bike oil tank off Ebay ($1.75) but it was to big to fit! =[ so I ended up going to my Lowes and making a custom PVC one! (don't hate haha). The trike runs great! First kick every time! And is wicked fast! I'm in the process of mounting up some 2006 Suzuki LTR450 rear fenders, I'll keep updates.


Not to shabby for a 15-16 year old now is it?? haha

Its not a 421, but it is a factory 10.5:1 high compression ratio 389. sweet ride =} lol
