I had a guy come over to look at a Yamaha TTR-90 dirt bike Saturday evening and just happened to have a couple 3-wheelers in the front garage along with the TTR. The guy comes in, I instantly fire up the bike, one kick and she is running. I shut the bike off, the guy never touches the bike or even looks at the other side and says," I'll take it." He hands me 600 bucks cash turns around towards the 250R & 350X and says "Those things are nothing but death traps." I just simply say my brother and I had grown up on 3-wheelers and have never had any trouble at all. With that we load up the bike and he fires up his truck and as he backs out he says," Dont kill yourself on one of those damn things". The dude hadn't been at my house for any more than 10 minutes all together and insulted the Atc's twice. Some people are just plain dumb. Thought you guys would enjoy.

Just one of those bozos who doesn't understand. Sadly there are a lot of people out there like that. The funniest thing is when people ask "Aren't those things illegal?"

Just like when someone asks me "Don't those flip over easy?". I always tell them "Only if you spook 'em".

The 3 wheeler was thrown way out of proportion when they were deemed dangerous. There is no real proof ever, that 3 wheelers were not anymore dangerous than a dirtbike ot 4 wheeler. I firmly say that it is the rider and not the machine, people get injured in all moving vehicles no matter how safe they may seem. All atvs and mototrcycles can be dangerous if you ride them incorrectly. Back in the late 80's Bann of the ATC , people just wanted someone to blame. It is a real shame..

Just like when people say pitbulls are bad it's not the pitbull it's how the owner raised it! and ATC's aer not bad it's the rider!

Let me say this: A 3 wheeler with no one on it will never hurt anyone. It's definitely the rider.

I wouldnt say that we ride the safest things out things every produced, but like others have said I would agree that 90% of it is the rider. Same goes for anything if you dont know how to use it, dont use it. None of my friends will ride my 450, not that I blame them, it scares me quite often.

obvious a 3 wheeler is more ergonomically dangerous than a 4 wheeler. The difference is they earn a respect and a skill from the rider to know their limits!!!! You WILL know your boundaries quick when on a trike vs. a quad....... To make a long story short.......you don't see many people who can't ride a bike on a UNICYCLE!!!!! Keep off 3 if ya can't ride 2!! lol lol lol

All these people that are so quick to blame things like 3 wheelers and people over .08 for accidents need to look at the facts....its stupid people who get killed and kill others in accidents, mostly of the time. I don't know how many morons slide off into on coming traffic every year, it winter, just like last year and the year before, and its slippery, slow down or drive in your ability. No one has blamed cars for all the accidents in winter, or proposed a ban on snow. You could give these retards a pair of shoes and somehow they would get going fast enough to hurt themselves, next thing ya know they'd be lobbying congress for a ban on shoes.

Yes if you look back to 1986 there was almost twice as many deaths on dirtbikes so how come they didn't get banned???? also if you read some of the accidents that brought the ban.... most of them were'nt wearing a helmet

Any proof of this? No dis-agreeing at all I'd just love to be able to back that fact up for all the haters!

I heard all this crap recently when I got my Tecate like it was "Unsafe at Any Speed" I think 3 wheelers were just the flavor of the moment in the mid 80s I mean look how much time politicians waste on things like violent video games when it should really be up to the parents to make that judgement. I mean I've known of fairly inexperienced riders owning fairly sporty ATVs despite having warning stickers on the fenders or whatever reading "your 10 year old shouldn't ride a Warrior 350" Look at how many street bikes are capable of speeds over 100mph, and how many people die on them being reckless. Why in some states can you buy beer at a drive through? Well now that 3 wheelers are banned everybody will live forever.....

I once chugged a 30 pack of tecates with my buds, put on my helmet & drove the trails of mexico at 12am on my 110 at full throttle. Flipped twice & only came out of it with a couple of road rashes. If your looking for trouble, you'll find it 9 times out of 10 . It's all about the driver not the machine.

I have some family members that wont ride three wheelers. the funny part is that I got their six year old grandson on the 110 with me one day and he loves it. He wants to ride it everytime he sees me. My five year old brother likes riding it also. so hopefully I have 2 future trike riders on my hands!!

Well, they are death traps. So are motorcycles, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, cars, boats, and air planes.

If it was me when the guy was driving away and told me "don't kill yourself on those things" I would have said, "don't kill yourself in a wreck on the way home."

Rode a trike for the first time last weekend and loved it. The design definitely presents more potential dangers than a quad or a dirt bike, but like everbody said, the rider needs to be alert and aware of how to handle the machine.

Some people are just plain dumb, no matter how many wheels they have or saftey devices the vehicle comes with, they will injure themselves and others (observe morning traffic:rolleyes:). Besides all of that, injury/fatality will continue to occur until the government decides to actually ban death and boo-boos, then we'll all be alright...

I have no proof of this, I just have the reports for atvs. You can contact the CPSC and get the reports. If you get it let us know :)

3 wheelers don't kill people, poor education and experience as well as good old stupidity does. I saw a report of a guy riding a 3 wheeler with a steak knife in his back pocket, jumped, and got stabbed bad. There's your problem. I agree with all these replies, I have ridden 3 wheelers since I was 8 and never crashed. Ive gone big and scary, never wrecked. You need to know how to lean and know your limitations, thats it. Be aware, be alert, and slide. It is not the machine, its the sole rider. I am writing a 2 page essay on the Ban and safety of 3 wheelers. This has helped me quite a bit. PM me and I will send my Essay to you guys. Pass it on to everyone. I want these back as do more people than I can shake a stick at. My essay might help. This will show people truly that 3 wheelers are just like any other vehicle.
For example, Have you ever seen a child win the Daytona 500?
PM me for details.

i think dirt bikes are way more dangerous than trikes. i rode a dirt bike one time...it was a kawasaki 250 2 stroke and it scared the crap out of me. that was the first and my last time to get on a dirt bike.

I am on the younger side of ATC enthusiasts (23) but grew up riding them my whole life so I always knew what they were all about but people my age who most definitely have never ridden one and have only heard stories are always like "aren't those things super dangerous" Or they will tell me they are death traps and then I'll ask if they have ever even ridden one and 9 times out of 10 the answer is no.....Such idiots, yes of course they are dangerous but so are dirtbikes and quads, ATC's require a special way of riding un-like a motorcycle or quad.

No doubt it's the rider to blame. Anyone with poor riding skills will get hurt no matter if they're on 2, 3, or 4 wheels. Some people just shouldn't ride anything.

Dammit!
