Sounds like it ran out of gas. Could be a stuck needle, clogged filter, gas tank not venting, bad petcock. I'm pretty sure the Yamaha petcock points opposite the Honda one.

If its an old carb theres no telling also could be the plug , The ytm carbs are hard to find so when my ytm s carb started acting up I fit a carb of a Honda 200 on it has ran like a champ ever since . Some people have the patience to keep fiddleing with an old carb Im impatient so I spent $35 on a new one and havnt looked back .

Is there a lot of work, or does it somewhat fit on? So your saying a Honda 200 carb will work for my Yamaha 200?

It fits with such ease very simple no crazy fab work to make it fit just have to drill another hiole on the intake boot so the bolts will line up , Ill try to get some pics of it tommorrow for ya .

Thanks, because this is frustrating. Yesterday it was the float pin, found it in the bowl!

I would check for a vacuum leak.

Tell you the truth, I kinda wish something else was in the bowl. At least I would know the problem! This carb has been an absolute nightmare!

sounds like it ran outta gas, drain tank, check fuel lines, check for spark, clean carb and air filter. thats a good start.

Sorry for the crap picture quality , but you can basically see how I did it . Just drilled out a slightly smaller hole just on the INSIDE of the factory hole and put a nut and bolt through that fit . Also you should be able to see it in atleast 1 of the pics where I added 2 washers to the throttle cable where it goes into the top of the carb nothing special just 2 little washers . Very cheap fix . Hope this helps .Mines Been runningstrong for 2 years now , and starts easier than my 185s or my 200x.

X2!! Sound like a major vac leak. Vac leaks will lead you in circles and piss you off to know end. I'd be looking around your intake boot. You can take a can of carb cleaner and spray it aroud components and if there is ANY change in motor response than you have an air leak. Of corse this only applie if it is running. Does it have compression now? A leaky head gasket will cause a high idle too.. remeber unmetered air is bad.

Tore the carb down again, found the culprit. The bowl gasket was homemade by previous owner, it worked so I did not fix it! Well when I tore the carb apart. I noticed the gasket was rubbing on the side of the float, this lodging it when it closed. I just cut the gasket to size and now I'm in business. I just made this sound easy! I'd like to tell you I tore that stupid carb down 5 times to figure that out! I tapped the bowl a few times to see if it was a sticky float too! It just happen to be stuck enough to stay stuck with the bowl on, and not enough when I took the bowl off! What are the chances?

Glad you got that figured out.

Oh, I feel your pain, but I'm glad you figured it out! I've had the same issue, especially with my ATC90, which had to have the carb out 5 or 6 times before it was right. I've been threatening to invent an "IV drip" for gas, so I can work on carb issues without putting the tank back on.

haha dennis kirk actually sells a plastic hang up tank with a really long fuel line just for the purpose of running the bike with no gas tank

My 85 Yamahauler, just take the plastics off, and there is the carb. Thank god I didn't have to take the tank off to get at the carb.
