I'm thinking about restoring a tri-z next, I got to ride wheelies on one last weekend and now kinda want one. Let me see your pics! How tough is it to find parts? Ebay seems scarce for tri-Z parts.

ya the tri-z's are kinda retarded the tank is LOW and has a pump because it cant use gravity

they did this to keep a low center of gravity (i think)

The airbox is under the black plastic cover where the tank normally is.

Here's mine. I need a new pic because this pic is from back when I first put the WestCoast Swingarm on it and I didn't have a longer chain yet! I also have some custom made parts by yours truly on there now and different fork boots.

Mine has:

Airbox Gas Tank
WestCoast Swingarm
Custom Aluminum Adjustable 2-position Linkage Strut
Custom Aluminum rear chain guide bracket
Twist Throttle
UNI-Pod Filter
Bill's Pipe
CT Silencer
18x11-8 Turf Tamers
Wheel Spacers
UFO Screen Number Plate
UFO Disc/Fork Guards
MX bend bars with Pro-Grips
I also have a tether kill switch for it, but it's not on right now.

Runs Great and looks cool!

The only pic I have of mine anymore,,... is below. hehehe
Oh, and the gas tank under the seat, was way ahead of its time, and the best thing to ever happen to 3 wheelers. Once you jump a Tri Z big.. you'll know why.. they land perfect!

Custom Aluminum Adjustable 2-position Linkage Strut

I dont suppose youve got a pic of this??Also iv asked before, what brand are those plastic disc gaurds you using, and what model should they go on if they not realy for a Z?They look like they fit bang on,and they defo look the part,,,,,,,,,,,,

Just also noticed looks like you got a decent fitting front plate where the lights should go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Damn some parts on there i never seen on any other Z,Bills pipe too,,,,,,,,
Westcoast swingarm,thats 1 well fitted out Z.

The disc guards look "bang-on" because they are. :-D If you asked before and I never answered, i apologize! They are UFO Disc/fork guards for a Tri-Z. The number plate is also a UFO old-school 3-wheeler vented number plate for a Tri-Z. It even has a tab on the top for the over-heat light. Anyway, i lucked out a couple years back and picked these NOS items up thanks to the miracle of ebay. I sold Dyno my extra set of guards I had. They are identicle except for some reason mine have vented slots and the ones I sold Dyno have recesses in the same area but no slots. I have one more disc side guard. It has a small crack in the bottom and I'm keeping it for a spare. I have no idea what might switch. the only trailing axle disc guards left are Maier for the 250R/200X. they might work.

As for the custom linkage strut, its a piece of aluminum that replaced the little "dog bone" connector arm on the back of the linkage. It's longer and allot beefier. Then it has 3 holes machined in it. The distance between the first two holes is stock (2"). The distance from the first hole to the last one is 4". Bushings are fitted to these holes. This set-up allows you to quickly change from stock ride height to a 2" lowered height. Just remove the top linkage bolt from the swingarm, remove the bushings (they slip right out), place them in the other hole, put the bolt through the desired hole and the clevis on the swingarm, tighten, and you have a two inch lowered rear end and vice versa. When I lower it, I usually slide the forks up a couple inches in the clamps too. It's only good for running around a flat area or track. You can also do the linkage adjustment on the underneath side of the swingarm so you don't have the strut sticking up. It might interfere with a stock Z tank under full compression but I don't have that problem. Also, on a stock Z swingarm you really can't lower the rear end this way but 1.5" instead of 2 because the shock will interefere with a stock swingarm. The west-coast is wide open to go lower. There are similar adjustable struts for the Banshee. They may work on the Z. I didn't want to pay 70 bux for one and not have it work, especially when I could build a better one for nothing! :-D

Anyway, I don't have a pic of it yet. But I'll try to get some this weekend. I need to get some pics of my 250R i just got anyway.

Thanks for noticing my Z. It's definitely not your typical run of the mill Z.
One more mod I want to make soon is the replacement of the 25" tire with a 23" like the 86. I'd also like to eventually switch to an extended axle and drop the spacers.

Below pic is a jpeg shot of the CAD model of the part! It'll have to do for now. :-D

I've got to throw mine in the mix. It was purchased in April 03 and was nothing but a bunch of cruddy parts in bunch of boxes.

I bought it shaking my head and thinking, "what did I get myself into?" I did not know even if I had enough parts or all the parts!

Well its all complete now and I was even able to find a factory Yamaha front fender that was still in the wrapper....this is one clean Tri Z and it will only see action in the dunes.

Sorry no mud or rocks for it...it survived the bone pile and she ain't ever going to get dirty!

here are a few more...

The gas tank gaurd under the seat was chrome plated and the shock knob for compression was brass plated. The shock spring was repainted as well, as was the frame and it has new platic (factory) all around.

Well, I'm not having a very fun time finding "good" parts. Bone yards in the atv mags want both your nuts and some stuff I've bought off ebay is worthless. I have gotten some good stuff though but not enough to finish the Z. I'm giving it until december, than I will be selling Z parts!
I should've went with an '85-'86 250R, tons of stuff eveywhere!
