I have an 82 185s that I just recently got running effectively and am getting ready to strip it and rebuild it for Hunting purposes next season. The muffler on it currently is a rusted out SS which is extremely loud. I did not want to drop $150 - $200 on a Cobra exhaust and was curious if there's a OEM styled muffler off a modern bike that I could clamp or weld on to the current exhaust pipe?
Thanks for any information or suggestions.

i dont know of one off a modern but if you can find a stock 185s muffler, they are really quiet.also cabellas has a stealth muffler thats supposed to work well

There was a thread some time back about using a Ford FO-4 tractor muffler and some people had some success with it. I've got good mufflers on my machines right now, but sometime I'm going to try it. I prefer quiet machines too!

Wow, that is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the link. I'll have to call TSC today and post my results of this later this weekend if they have it in stock. Woot!

Now that I think of it, I do need a muffler for my YTM225DX. It's got a Cobra on it now, and I haven't been particularly happy with how loud it is. Maybe I should see if one of these will work! Keep us posted on how this works, and I will do the same if I end up trying it.

Well I bought one from the local TSC. I went to Auto Zone and grabbed a 1.5" Exhaust pipe clamp. I was surprised the SS exhaust just slid off the pipe, I thought it was all one piece. I'm not sure what the outer diameter of the exhaust pipe is but the tractor muffler had a 1.5" diameter inlet which was much larger than the header pipe. I used some steel fixing band to hang it from the frame temporarily and tightened the clamp down as much as I could. I still have some exhaust leak but the exhaust noise is much quieter. I hear more engine noise than I do exhaust noise. I'll try to do a video shortly.
