Here's the problem. I bought a used factory muffler of ebay to replace my loud cobra silencer. Well after it was installed a very distinct buzzing sound is coming from inside the muffler. When the engine idles it's barely noticeable but when it's revved it's very audible and very annoying!! So I assume it's a baffle thats either broken loose or is about to. So is it worth trying to cut open the muffler and repair the broken baffle? I've never attempted anything like this or know what is inside a factory 350X muffler, or where to start cutting? Do you guys have any ideas or insight on how I should proceed with this dilemma?

If you get the old baffle out (should only be two screws holding it in) I have a brand new baffle here I'm not using. I bought it NOS and used it for one ride. I'm not sure that's the problem tho.
So the oem muffler bolted up to the cobra header with no problems? or are you using a stock headpipe now?

No it's not the baffle. I took that out and the plate with the 2 screws on the bottom also and it still doing it. It's coming from inside somewhere. And no, it wasn't a direct bolt on. So far, I have had to cut and bend some to make it line up but it still leaks a bit.

Find a TRX450R muffler and put that on. There are a few informative threads here on how its done and it seems relatively easy.

I've read those threads and it would like nice, but I'm a terrible fabricator and can't weld. I have this muffler I just bought and would rather see if it is fixable first.

i tried to cut one because of the same thing. i cut around the weld on the back side and when i got all the way around it would still not come apart. the insides are welded to the back somehow. i never finished the project and think it is still in the barn. i think all but one factory muffler i had done this. it would drive me crazy.

It's driving me crazy too!! I know what you mean about that back weld because that's what I thought first but from looking inside it's still connected? Judging by looking in the rear, it seems right around where the mounting tab is, you should be able to slice right through it without having anything still being attached. It really bugs me because when I whack it with a rubber mallet, you can't tell where it's coming from since the whole muffler acts as a resonation chamber. I don't know if I should just live with it, or fix it??
