So I've been looking at ebay and noticed that all the 84 200x's on there have a different tank sticker than mine and all the 85's have the same one, so I decided to run the numbers and find out for sure. I compared mine to the ones on the site and I think I have an 85 frame with an 84 motor but I don't think they matched up just right. Am I right? The numbers appear to be:
Frame: JHSTB0522FK 426628
Motor: TB05E-6107090

Thanks

you probably have a85 200x and the original or second or third owner probably fried the original motor an put an 84 motor in it or they could have put an 84 sticker on it. as far as i know the 84 and 85 have identical motors exept for the vin numbers, in 86 is when they changed it to a 6 speed insted of the 5 speed.
hope this helps.

According to the book ( and the spex on the site ) you are correct. 85 Frame and a 84 motor.

The motors are 99.9% the same from 83 thru 85.

Thanks for the help. I have another question though. My motor is pretty much dead (needs complete top and bottom end rebuild and new clutch) so I'm looking for another one, will an 86-87 200x motor bolt up to my x with little or no modifications or are the mounts different like everything else?

I dont think they will bolt right up, but then again ive never been up close to the 86-87 models and dont know how they bolt up..........but from what i heard from some 86-87 owners, they have dif. bolt patterns.

the 86/87 totaly diffrent. 83/85 are not the same in the kickstater. so if you end up using parts from a 83/84 to 85. be sure to use all the kicker parts from the same year. the gears, shaft, spring, covers, bearings, ect are diffrent on the 85. they change to a higher ratio gears and a bearing on the end of the shaft. i found out the hard way
