View Full Version : Some 350x Questions

I'm pulling the motor out of my 350x to swap it due to a problem with a frozen oil drain plug.

I was told that i can pull the motor whole without tearing it down, so i am doing so, i have all the bolts and other jazz off and out of the way, but I can't figure out which side of the frame the motor should come out of, i've tried both sides and it keeps fighting me. Someone throw down some input.

I want to upgrade the exhaust, and I am thinking about a supertrapp slip on, and something else for head pipe. I know I've read that ( i think ) a 400 ex headpipe will fit on there, but not sure about what year.
I also need to re-weld the oil cooler mounts that someone was kind enough to grind off for me, so I'm going to get some 3/4" X 3/4" x 1/2" blocks of steel and weld them in place, after i drill and tap the correct size holes. I also have to fix the gas tank mounts that faced the same misery as the oil cooler mounts. Just gonna get some 1/2" round stock and machine it down and weld a washer onto the right side where the other one was, maybe even one on the left side ( does anyone know why it's there?) I am also going to replace all of the motor mount bolts as i beat most of them with a hammer to get them out, damn that 25 years of rust and oxidation...

Any other "modernization" that i should put into consideration while i've got the beast apart?

Thanks to anyone with ideas and advice on this because I am truly lost on this one....

The right side, and engines always come out easier with the 2 side cases removed,,,,

The left side has an extra mount and it's tougher to remove it on that side.

I also am a big Supertrapp fan but I think the 400EX headpipe has to be reworked a bit. OR get a whole use ST system for about 150$

Aside from poor maintenance, they are fairly indestructable. Or the head and cam suffer, the clutch should be looked at too.

Hope that helps :beer

Tell me where i can get a ST exhaust for $150, that sounds like a good deal to me.
The threads I've looked at with 400ex headpipes reworked, the pics are old and gone.
I read about how people put the oil filter in backwards, so which way is the right way?

the O ring always goes out on the oil filter. if you put it in the other way it will ruin the head and cam and .....

most new filters are clearly marked "this side faces out" i just replaced my 350x filter with a new OEM filter, and it was marked.
