What is a YPVS motor? High pro topend? Some kind of power valve?

Yes, power valve engine. That is a 82 engine, which is a one year design from many standpoints.

YPVS stands for Yamaha Power Valve System. I guess they have a little more radical porting, and the powerband is not so much like a "lightswitch" which is what the power valve is designed to do, give you more smoothe power everywhere. I dont think the original tri z motor is too bad, and not like a lightswitch like my tecate.
