New to board, Many questions inside (Long)

Hello everyone! There is an 85 200x 3-wheeler that has been sitting in our shed for the past several years. I first learned how to ride wheelies, jumps, and mud bogging on this machine. I'm very interested in bringing this thing back to the way it first was. Any help is of course appreciated if you can lend it.

Problems:

Kick starting is impossible, the kicker won't go down with out jumping on it. It feels like something is binding. I've tried pouring some oil on top of the piston through the spark plug, but no bueno. We've also tried a rolling start with it by popping the clutch, but that still does nothing.

Idle is erratic, clutch is definitely slipping. It needs a complete rear brake assembly (Genius brother decided to remove/junk it once it stopped working), front/rear shocks, as well as needing all new paint.

Now the stupid newbie question. What motors will interface with the frame of the 200x? I know there was a 2-stroke trike, but not positive on the designation. I have a decent amount of mechanical knowledge, as well as connections with a few machine shops & a friend who specializes in small motor repair. Can anyone lend a hand?

a 200s, 200m, 200e all with auto clutch will fit in to a 200x frame, MAYBE, MAYBE ( i dont know 4 sure) but I HEARD that a 350x motor of some year will go in there, I dont know of any 2-stroke motor that will go in w/out any modifications..... hope that little bit helps

Welcome to the board! there were a few two stroke trikes the one your probably thinking of is the ATC250R but there's also the Kawasaki KXT250 aka the Tecate 3 and the yamaha TRi moto 125,175 tri zinger 60 and the Tri-Z 250. and the exotics.
PS i doubt any twostrokes would fit your frame. if you want a two stroke i suggest geting a whole trike

The 185, 185s, 200s auto clutch/rope start motors will all bolt right in too. Also, the XR200 and XR200R will bolt in, but you'll have to use the kick start shafts and clutch cover off a 200x for the forward kick. I've never owned a 350x, but i'm reasonably certain the frame of a 200x would have to be stretched to fit a 350x motor on it. You would also have to weld brackets on for the oil cooler. Probably even more mods would be required, but i'm just guessing.

the carb on a 350x in a 200x frame gose right where the shock is so you have to do some extensive modds to put the 350 in it

thanks for the 350x info, I HEARD that it would go in w/out 2 much trouble, but Ive never owned a 350x or even seen one up close, so I guess that guy was wrong lol

I wasn't even sure this board was this active. Thank you everyone for the insightful input. :Beerchug It looks as if I'm just going to rebuild the trike with performance parts, rather than stock. Where is a good resource for finding N.O.S. parts? I've found fenders, top-end rebuild kits & the such. But I'm going to need new hardware as well as replacement shocks, CDI & the such.

I smell something, you guys are the shi#. lol Thanks a million. I've got all those sites listed above saved in my favorites. I'll be sure to post pictures at the important stages of the rebuild.

Does anyone know of the history of these bikes? As in what type racing they were classed in? How they faired against the competition, and what type/if any competition were there?

Make sure you take pictures before you start tearing it apart. I've completely restored my 250r, 200e, and just finished my buddy's 200x, and forgot to do it on every one. And I have a ton of 200x motor and electrical parts too.
