Imperial Invasion! Gordons Well, CA Dune Ride!

Well the Imperial Invasion at Gordons Well (Imperial Sand Dunes, CA) has come to an end. It was an epic week of riding and meeting trikers from all over the country.

There will be MANY pictures and videos posted in this thread. I have TONS of video footage but it will take me a while to get through all of it. I'll start it off with some pictures. These were actually taken by accident. Curtis (fla2-stroke) thought he was recording a video but had the camera in picture mode. He ended up with nearly a thousand still pictures from one trek into the dunes. I combed through it for the best images.

In the pictures, that's our very own Bryan Raffa in front of Curtis on the 350x and 1inthemiddle and 3razors farther out front on the quads.

The light bar made a great anchor for the tow rope. Got it dead centered. I didn't even really need to hold on to the bars. Tracked totally straight. :lol:

I'm trying to dump all of my pictures I took (about 250) into the new Albums we have, but there tseems to be a hard limit coded in at 100 per album. I'm trying to remove that, and then I'll dump all of them in one and link you guys up. When its fixed, I'd reccomend you guys do that as well. Its a lot like photobucket, you just select them (all 250 at once if you wanted) and click upload and it'll take care of the rest, as long as I get that stupid limit taken care of.

I'd like to say a special thank you to Corey Sprock and co for making this ride happen. The generosity I witnessed on this trip was really amazing and appreciated by everyone.

I'd also love to hear everyone that came out for their first trip to the Imperial Dunes give us their impressions now that you've had to time to reflect on it. I know it's a hard place to describe but, try. :D

Well I have'nt downloaded my 200+ picture's up into my computer yet which I am soon too do but I need to say a few Thank's 1st and Doug I'll tell ya what exactly I thought of the whole trip.First and foremost I want too say a huge" Thank You" to Corey Sprock and Bobby Joe for there great hospitality in everything you did on this trip for me,you are deffinatly a top notch class act and your kindness can't be put into word's,the food was great the sleeping arangement's were great the riding was great the machine's were great ,everything was great and I have the Sprock's to thank for that,and I would'nt have had a machine out there had it not been for you either Corey and Eric,so once again Thank's Corey and Bobby Joe...( It was Great)!!!

I also wanna say Thank's to Kasey for explaining the way the dune's work with the wind's and how to read the Razor's,whitches eye's and the sand and for giving me a couple great tour's and tell your wife thanks for our campfire talk on raising kid's.Also wanna say Thanks too Minty for taking us on one of the most awesome duner ride's I have ever been on,that will be implanted in my mind for the rest of my life.ATC Eric you get a big Thank You for everything you did for me also from driving me around,getting my luggage in Yuma,checking out the ship's and Submarine's and much more,Thanks Budd.Gary you Da man when it come's to getting a good laugh and starting my machine since I was stuck in my shoe's with no boot's,(Long Story LOL).Debbie get's a huge Thank You for all the cooking you did including the great Real Southwest taco dinner that you made for all of us. Also a Big Thank's to Jason Hall for letting me rip it up on the aluminum 450 which was the bomb on Patton's Hill and every thing else you did for me.Also a big Thanks to 3 razor's brother(sorry but I can't remember your name) for letting me take my 1st ride on a fully suspended 185S.Thank you to Mr Clean for the great conversation's we had and the other stuff,including offering up the cleanest 250R I have ever seen to ride.Also wanna say Thanks to Shelly and Sandy for helping me find my video camera and my phone when I misplaced them 100 time's.Also wanna say thanks to my roomie's for the week which were ATC Tim & Shelly ,Billy,The Mosh's,and the Sprock's for putting up with me also and the list goes on & on with thank you's.Last and deffinatly not least I wanna say Thanks to my brother Joedirt for letting me use one of the nicest 350X's that I have ever ridden,and for relieving me of alot of stress with not having to set up my own machine since I was in a pinch with time,your machine ran flawless and is actually still in one piece,LMAO,and Thank's to ATC Sam and Jake for the use of the Paddle's and Fender's.Thanks to everyone for a Great time ,a time that I will never forget for sure !!!

Now I'm not really sure I can honestly explain what I thought of the Dune's other than it ruined me on Silver Lake,LOL.The 1st day I was actually freaked out ,I had no clue on what to expect as to what was on the other side of the razor's and climbing some of these dune's.I was not expecting the sand too be so smooth for one,but as I was watching you west coaster's ride and following ya's from dune to dune and from bowl to dune I started too feel more comfortable but still did'nt let my guard down.There is nothing like hitting the top of a dune leaning hard to the inside of the trike, hitting the soft powder sand at the top and roosting the top and shooting straight back down~now that was a blast.Another thing that was Great was when a few of us led by Jay in his rail were out on a little ride and I found this huge ,and I'm talking Huge dune that dipped down into a huge bowl and up to another big dune with a 10 `15 foot razor that was carved in the middle that I was hitting 5th gear top'd out and catching some huge air and had the coolest landing and then I would climb back up the 2nd dune get to the top hit the soft sand lean in throw a roost come back down and do it all over again.Hard to explain really but let me tell ya that was an absolute blast,I think I hit that at least 10 time's.The hill climb's were someting to be said too,nothing like that back here in Michigan I can say that for sure.Patton's Hill was a challenge for the 350X I could'nt do it with the girl on the steep face but on the lesser slope I made it up ,but Thanks to Jason Hall for letting me run up it with his 450 which climbed it easily and Sprock let me run his 700 Raptor up it.With the 450 trike I was hillshooting that hill front tire up having the time of my life just laughing with enjoyment the whole time.I have been riding since I was just a little kid on trike's and I can tell ya all,that this trip was the best trip I have ever had in the sand and I will deffinatly be back next year,I'd suggest you guy's start saving a few buck's every week and make the trip next year. This trip was just like the 1st time I went to Trikefest and I was able to put a face on a person's name but the riding was superior compared to Haspin.I met alot more people that I can call my friend's, got to see some that I have'nt seen in year's like you Dammit ,and had the absolute time of my life riding in the sand.I can say this too that like some other's on the board's I will never talk smack about riding in the dune's that's for sure, and if you all have'nt noticed I think I used the word Great more than once.The only Bummer I had with this whole trip was my luggage but that there is a story amongst itself.I still have 200+ pic's to post up that I gotta get too so look for those yet..

We had never flown on a plane or been to California,so I am going to add some pics out to Sand Diego,and the awesome scenery from the plane 40,000 ft up in the air and also driving through SoCal.

I just wanted to say thanks to Sprock, and Eric, and Gary and Bobbie-Jo for everything you guys did.
These guys kept the bikes gassed up and maintained, helped cook, shuttled us around,and so much more...

It is quite an amazing ordeal to glide across the sand, looking thru the fence into Mexico, and enjoying the campfire at night, under the stars and moon. Everyone should experience it atleast once in their life! Hopefully you will not get hooked like myself, LOL!

I sure hope they left us some trash tho, I am headed out there this weekend to help clean up the dunes to keep them open and the EPA tree huggers off our backs. Great experience for the kids as well!

We picked up trikes in Michigan and Missouri and made the trip. We had about 20 trikes and quads from the midwest. Next year's date will probably be set near the end of Feb. That way most will have their tax refunds back and can better afford the trip. This year we charged $500 per person which covered plane ticket, picking up and delievery from airport, gas for trikes, transporting trike to and from dunes and all the food and alcohol you can drink. Almost all the food and alcohol was donated and fed the entire group. Next year we plan the cost to be about $600-800 per person or ($1000 for married couple)and we will bring a trailer to mid Ohio were we plan on loading anyone's trike up for the trip and then after we pick up your trike we will fly you into Yuma and feed and hydrate you. This deal is only for those who are traveling or making arraingements with Corey Sprock and friends. You can make plans yourself or travel on your own. I will still try and feed everyone who attends the gathering either way. Great pics everyone. Is it just me or did the camera add on about 100 lbs?

Well, I would like to thank all the west coast guy's for making It out this trip. AZJay and his family are GREAT!!! Thank's for Everything. Dammit & Kasey are VERY fun to chase around the dune's. Dammit Is one FAST dude on a 3 wheeler. I had THE most fun on the Big boy ride's we ventured out on, we were friggin FLYING!!! Thanks also to the Coolest people on the planet. Corey and Bobbie Joe Sprock, we love you guy's and thank you for another AWESOME tip to the Dune's. We have more fun every year, can't wait til next year. Thanks also to Eric and Gary for everything they did, you guys are WAY Cool, and funny. Eric, you were right, we did have a couple second's left :D

Gary brought every tool you could think of other than a hack saw & Measuring tape, the sun Is with Gary ALWAY'S! Tim & Shelly, Rob & Tammy, Roger and also Billy glad you guy's came out to play. Hondaharry & Jed, you 2 guys are so smart, I really dig the bike's and VERY cool buggy and the truck you guy's brought. Harry the pipe's on both of your trike's were wicked, what a great Idea. Very well taken care of. Jed Is a genious, I swear by that statement!!! This guy built the coolest buggy ever. He adapted thing's together that are JUST NOT supposed to be combined and made It work GREAT. Imagine a Honda 4 cylinder car engine with General Motor's fuel Injection adapted to a custom built Intake. He made Every part fit, as soon as I saw the shift linkage I then was sure he IS a genious.

That was a fun ride. I still remember the view from that huge bowl that I took us around twice. That thing was a monster. Too bad the cam wasn't on right there. I should have had a backwards cam going for that ride because everytime I checked you were only like five feet behind me.

Yes that would have been some awesome footage right there :D :drool: Kasey was behind us for the longest time he should have been wearing the camera, that would have been the shizzle.

That's truck Is Jed's C-60 chevy with a cummins from a school bus, along with a big Allison Trans. lot's of other trick stuff also.

Roger, I'm glad we got to ride with you also, sure Is a big difference from our dune's here In MI. I never expected Mrclean to go up over that hill, we were all just turning on the top & coming back down. I'm sure he strategically planned the whole thing out LOL. I got the whole ride up until that spot where stopped and I took a couple pictures. I just didn't turn it on for the ride back. It was starting to get dark and it doesn't work real well in low light.

You're right though. It would have been much better to have the cam a couple riders back.

Well lets just say I needed a name on the boards, as I have a big thanks to put out to Cory and his wife Bobbie Jo. This trip was a great time and still had many first for me. Thank you Jay for my first dunebuggy ride, and Debbie for the new way of fixing Tacos...also loved the hot cocoa, Bobbie Jo. I am glad to see Amanda made it to the dunes, and Austin, you are amazing. Richard, I am glad to see your wife and daughter made it this time. I will be looking forward to another fast night ride next year. Glad that Rob and Tammy, Tim and Shelly, Roger, and Billy all made it out (again next year?). Another first would be a thank you to Mr. Clean for leading us to the Duners Diner, thank you Curtis for the round of drinks.. Touching the Mexico sand was another first experience. I just can't express the enjoyment I get out of the dunes. Thank you for everyone that attended and hope to see you all next year..

I would like to say it was cool to have all the girls out there this year. Thanks tanya for spinning some sand with me following jason. Shelly, I'm ready for another ride anytime. Oh Yeah, thanks mymint for the journey into the unknown. I love fast twisting in the dunes. If anyone can experience this trip I encourage it. COREY SPROCK....So much thanks to you. You make it happen and go way out to make sure EVERYONE has what they need to make it all come together for good times and good memories.

this was the best dune trip ever.many thanks to my buddy mr clean who makes this possible for me by storing my bikes,picking me up at airport and driving to the dunes.also would like to thank the local riders for leading the rides.It is so cool following someone who picks great lines.the biggest thanks of all goes to corey sprock who was tireless in his cooking,drink making and making sure everyone was taken care of.It was cool hanging out with some of the crew from trikefest at the dunes.the trip to the border was cool.I love the pics of mosh climbing over the fence.I cant wait to do it again.I am glad so many people took great pics because I lost my camera before I had a chance to download the 400 or so pics I took.I am going to try to make all the rides those missori boys do because they do it right.I am going to mix up a huge batch of my specialty drink for trikefest.I can make some mean alabama slammers.I know billy will like them.:lol:

I'm soooo jealous I missed this, needs more green out there. I haven't been on the forums in a long time but either way I wouldn't have made it as I'm in Maryland now and soon Germany. awsome pics. i miss those day's of going to glamis all the time. we used to go out there on all the big holiday's. ton's of people lot's of awsome machines. one of these day's i'll get back out there. now i can take my son with me as soon as he's old enought to ride. the sand at glamis is one of the smoothest and finest grain i have ridden on. glamis rules!!!!!

Im sure the ride will still happen, its just a matter of how many people can "Invade" this time around. Im doing my best just to get there this year.

for me, it basically comes down to a ride for my machine. Finding someone to bunk with doesnt seem like it would be an issue. I probably wont make any 2012 ride unless I start making some serious $$ soon though. shooting for 2013 :D
