Hello all, I'm a newbie to the site hear. I like most of you have been an enthusiast for about all of life. I grew up riding the ATC's and have been wanting to start my collecting. The first on my list was the beloved 350X. So I found one, and snagged a extra roller!! WOO HOO!!!! So I have decided to keep all the parts and the complete motorfor the 86 I have and restore it to original like conditions. I have been wondering what to do with the 85 now. So, after lots of researching, I decided to try the 300EX motor swap. This will be a "daily driver" for me so this is perfect. I know, the motor in stock trim is weak!! A big bore and head port job will get me where I will be happy. I got it all put together, and I have to say, I'm impressed! It is very cool to have the electric start and reverse. The swap was extremely easy!! Even for me (not a mechanic). With parts getting harder and harder to find, I thought this would be the perfect way to keep me riding my ATC for many years to come!! I must say its a great idea IMO! I'll try to get some pics up if anyone is intersted too!
Thanks, and I love the site!

:welcome::welcome::welcome: to the site. And I did one of these a few years ago and honestly I liked it so much better. It was definately a better trail machine.

I saw where someone said that someone had done one, that's where I got the idea. I was going to do the 400 motor, but apparently they don't fit right in. Didn't want to hack up the frame. Any tips on where you put all of the electrical?
Thanks for the welcome everyone!

cool swap looks good.
Just letting you know FMF pipes turn rite as they come out of the head. then you wont have to hack up the pipe you have on there

Thanks guys! I still haven't gotten it all to look pretty, but in due time it will. Hey MR.200X350XTRIZ guy, I have a question. I looked at your thread, looks very nice. I did the same thing it looks like on where you put all the major wiring ( where the oil cooler use to be), but I have a couple of more questions if you don't mind. What pipe exactly was that, you used for the conversion. I want a better pipe. This thing had a DG pipe, but there was no mid-pipe. I cut some of the header, and used the stock 350X muffler. The DG muffler will not go under the plastic. That's why I hacked it for now. I have also been having a problem with the airbox. Which air box did you use, which tubes, and what did you do about the other holes in the box? That is if not the original box of the 350X? Also, I'm planning on puttin the EX carrier and wider axle in it later, anything I should know about sprockets lining up or anything like that? Thanks for all the info, I appreciate it guys!!

i put a Lonestar 300ex axle in my 350x and the sprocket lined up perfectly.
By the way i just did the opposite of you in the spring. I pur a 350x motor in a 93 300ex.

Thanks, I am assuming you sent that for the motor build up. I have been looking at their kits. Now, I don't want to get into a HP discussion because I believe that dog has been beat plenty. But, have any of you or do you personally know anyone that has ran the aggressive kits in the 300? I am curious on reliablity only. If the large kits aren't fabulous, then I will just build like a 300, cam, and port job. That will have to do.
Thanks for the info!

looks good! man that pipe sticking out!!!! time to cut and reweld to make it shorter and fit nicer, but hey it works
I assume it was pretty much bolt on? if so, I may consider this as my next proejct!!

Excellent, it's nice to hear from someone that knows the kits are working. I have heard of guys building motors for the EX for years obvisouly, but I never knew of anyone that kept the thing long enough to get a reliability report. LOL, yeah that header sticks out a lot!!! I don't where DG came up with that thing at! I'm waiting to hear back from someone regarding the FMF pipes, supposedly they mount up really well. Yes the motor is virtually a direct a bolt in. You need a few spacers, and couple of bolts for a mount or two ( still haven't taken time to get them ), but that's really it. No welding or torches used! :) I would definitley recommend the swap, anyone with normal tools can pull it off too.

Ok, thanks for the info. Seems like I saw a pipe with a short header that had a mid pipe too. Not sure where I saw it and what brand it was. I have the exact same issue obviously with the airbox. I wasn't really even thinking about cutting the boot to make it fit the EX. That will solve my dilema. Thanks, I appreciate!
