View Full Version : First time in the shop in 20 years...anything else to check?

Hi All, I have 3 old trike (81 ATC200, 84 ATC125 and 86 ATC125) and all are in the shop for what is probably the first time in 20 years. They have only had oil changes, but the machines are in good shape.

We gave all 3 machines an overhaul. Cleaned the carbs, gas tanks, serviced brakes, oil changed, sprocket/chain serviced, new tires, ext. I have all three machines in the shop right now for a valve adjust (see thread http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?107116-Valve-adjust-problem&p=821074#post821074).

Is there anything else I should have checked out while it is in the shop that would be considered maintenance for a 20+year old machine?

Should I have the timing checked? Can this go out? Is this done by simply aligning the timing mark on the flywheel with the one on the cover with a timing light, or is there more to it? Is there any sort of spec to follow when setting the timing (degrees or anything) or is this very simple to do?

Anything else?

Thanks kindly,

MTS

Might want to pull the bearings in the front and rear Carriers and clean/repack them.., adjust the timing Chain tensioners, adjust the clutch's, Lube the cables

That's one thing I never thought of. Is this a big thing (hard) to do?

adjust the timing Chain tensioners, adjust the clutch's, Lube the cables
Done and done.

adjust the timing Chain tensioners...

Just found out the 86 ATC125 (but not the 84 ATC125) has an Auto Cam Chain Tensioner, so I think its not adjustable. Is this correct? Does it need any periodic maintenance?
