Well guys I tried every thing to try and get that green Yamaha yellow again, and I think I have found the only way to restore these fairings as close to factory as possible. Sorry for those of you who are lazy, but it just flat out takes old fashion elbow grease. I basically am wet sanding with 320 grit and then I will move on to 600 grit. The trick is keep the plastic WET as you sand. it is taking along time, but patience is most definitely a virtue. I will post pics, cuz you guys are not going believe these fairing transformations, I impressed myself, I hope the rest of this bike goes that way! I will buff after that, then wax like crazy!
Now as for the engine, Yes, cleaned the carb, changed the front and rear oils, new spark plug, fresh gas (higher octane)and did some adjustments on the carb and BAM!!! This puppy fired right up on the tap of the start button, and as for the pull start you see hanging over the seat, well pulled that off and took totally apart on clean debris out, DRENCHED in liquid wrench, and BAM again, like new.
Now as for the tires, cash is nill, so I tried to just air them up for now and they held for about an half hour 45 min. I an surrounded by tons of snow, so I am not worried about these dry rotted skins for now. I am just going to patch the holes for now and play till I get tires!
Now as for the the bikes performance. Let me tell you what. this thing is a BLAST!!! Just the half hour I rode it, I got my $300 out of it. You guys were right... Diamond in the rough!
I will post my progress as I come along. This is all I had for now! Later guys!

Thats what I'm shooting for! Had I not rode it and felt that infamous Yamahauler, stump pulling first gear, I might not be so enthused!

You guys know the funny part to all this work I am putting into these plastics. As trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro getting crazy as I can get on toys, they will probly be in pieces next week! So keep an eye out for me, I will be looking for all types of things for this Yamaha!

ive used aircraft stripper and it will eat the bad layers of plastic off, and leave the plasic shine under neath, just buff then. it can be found in auto parts stores or even hope depot sells a nasty paint remover in a steel can thats spry on that works even better.

easyoff oven clean will remove the paint and not harm the plastic

thats a shame, was probably mint when someone parked it outdoors for years. Good to see your gonna bring it back to its old glory. That is just fading and weathering on the fenders right? not paint.

While you had that recoil apart, I would've replaced the rope. I'd hate to see you out somewhere and need to rely on the pullstart and have the rope break off. I had mine break off in my garage and it pissed me off. I can't imagine being in the middle of nowhere and having it happen.

As for the tires, get some tubes in them and run them.

Nope, that is ungodly amounts of paint and some over spray of black with touches of moss. Great combo right! it was just a masive case of neglect and I found it fora restoration project for the winter. As for the pull start, its not on there yet, looking for more rope, got it some where in my shop!Taking break from the sanding, heres the progress!

Hey you guys see the sticker, which is probly all it is, of the wiseco piston? What are the chances this bikes already been moded. It has a new seat and a thing here and there. The bike fires up like a charm and seem to have a nice set of nuts, but I havent been on a bike in years! Any how it will bother me for ever, cuz the way it runs right now... If it aint broke dont fix it!!!
