Found a super nice 1983 225 DX on ebay the other night and put in a bid. didn't meet the reserve and it sold for the buy it now price of $1250. On a whim, I emailed the seller and said if the deal fell through for any reason to give me a call and let me know because i would be interested. As far as I can tell from the pictures, it has been taken care of fairly well and loks to be in great shape. Even has what I think are all original tires with plenty of tread left. Also has front and rear racks, and some type of nerf bars/ foot guards that look stock. I'll try and post a couple pics, but wanted an informed opinion on what it might be worth before I go look at it and pull the trigger. Thanks for the help :)

Does sound a little high to me, maybe I can talk him down some. Gotta call the guy back today and hopefully set up a time to see it and I will let you guys know what I find out :) But yeah, I've never seen those foot guards before either. Looks like a stock piece

It's been said many times on here, it's worth what somebody is willing to pay. Personally I would pay $1250 for that trike, but maybe you can offer less.

Looks nice for the price. I like the footguards as well. That angled rear rack looks a bit goofy or is that how they all are? I'm not familiar with the Yamahas.

I don't think that's the correct rack (not mine).

Not sure if the rack is factory, but was wondering if the grab bar is bent and causing it to sit at that angle? Is it only attached to the grab bar or do they go through the fender as well? Monroe mike, I see yours goes through the fender but from the pics of the one I am looking at it is hard to tell. Maybe it is an aftermarket piece that only attaches to the grab bar. And Tecate50, that is pretty much the plan :) Worst he can do is say no thanks. Talked to him earlier and he said some guy from Israel won it in the auction and has zero feedback. He isn't going to wait on him after multiple attempts to contact him and said it's mine for the taking if I decide to buy it. If I come home with another trike saturday evening, I'll try and post some pics :)

Got a great deal myself on Craigs list, two original owner 1985 22dxs for 600.00 each as you can see in my profile picture. Both are all original and garage kept. Hardly ridden by older male and female. Right place at the right time.

Looks like I am the proud new owner of said 225DX :) Paid a little more than I wanted to at $1050 but that was the absolute bottom dollar they would go to. I feel pretty comfortable with that, only $100-200 more than I wanted to pay but think I still got a good deal. Plus I could sell the racks or something and make the money back :)
I haven't had alot of time to look it over completely but the rear rack just bolts to the grab bar, no holes through the fender. The nerf bar/foot guards aren't too bad, not sure if they are a stock item but were definitely made for it. Runs good, shifts good, could probably stand to have the carb cleaned and everything adjusted. Battery needs charged. Plastics look really good, maybe just a good polish and need to find a new set of decals to look perfect. Only real flaw is the petcock drips a little bit but that's a pretty easy fix. Also there is no core in the silencer. Doesn't sound horrible but pretty loud.
Anyways, probably going to try and change the oil and other maintenance stuff tommorow and ride it for a bit and see how I like it. I love my 200K and Tri-Z :beer

Hey, that looks like a real nice machine.
I have 85' Yamaha 225DX in Blue. I bought mine for $780 from the original owner with all of the original paperwork including the Bill of sale, Owners manual, all maintenance records, etc. I have wanted this particular machine for a long time and finally have one, its a wheelie machine! I have had several Hondas and have always loved them too, just happy to have found a good Yamaha for a decent price also.
Congrats on getting a nice lookin bike!

Thanks for all the positive comments :) I did change the oil and gear oil in the rear axle today and adjusted the clutch. Still gotta check the valves and clean the carb but rode it around as long as I could stand it ( only about 6 degrees outside :) ) and it did really well. Needs a new exhaust, the silencer is rotted out, might look into a DG system unless I can find a really nice stock system. Also going to need tires at some point. They look like they are original but pretty weather checked.
I did take the front and rear racks off as well as the nerf bar/ skid plate. Looks alot cleaner now, probably going to set them aside in case i want to put them back on. And the nerf bar/skid plate is aftermarket, I found a sticker on it that said "Cambridge Metals and Plastics" looks like they are still around: http://www.cmp-wwm.com/home.html but doubt they are still making these for the 225dx. I'm guessing they might have made the rear rack, but not sure. It would probably also work on others like my ytm 200. But so far so good, really nice machine :)

So what are your thoughts on the year of this thing? It was advertised as an 83 but I wonder if its an 84? the images on google for the 83 dx show different style decals than what this one has. Not that it matters much but might be nice to know. The carb does bolt to the intake rather than a slip fit like my 83 ytm200. But knowing the year might be helpful in trying to order the correct decals from the speed and sport guy on ebay. Anyways, lemme know what you think, thanks :beer

What is the VIN?
pickleweasel_00

actually I did some looking around on the steering stem and found some interesting info. Interesting to me anyways, apparently it's a canadian machine. It has a date of 5/83 on the sticker along with : This vehicle conforms to all applicable canadian federal motor vehicle safety standards in effect on the date of manufacture shown above" also says: " Type-classification-mini bike this vehicle isintended exclusively for off road use"
Also appears to be an import sticker of some sort, it is round and has the maple leaf logo with the script "GMVSS - Canada Transport - NSVAC" Kind of cool I think. It also has a circular amber redlector on each fork and a rectangular red reflector under the taillight, as I understand these reflectors are mandated for atvs in Canada.
So I guess I found the answer to my question :)
