225DX spark question

I'm looking at a 225DX that has been sitting for four years. Of course it won't start, and I'm sure that's a carb issue, but he tells me a local shop told him the "thing" that is a "pick up" won't make a spark for fire. I have a buddy at the shop, but being four years ago he doesn't remember it, and is giving me a ball park figure of $50-$150 (used, aftermarket, or OEM). Anyone have any input to add to that?? Spark/fire problems are something I'm not familiar with at all.

did you try checking it yourself for spark,, you should easly be able to pick up a whole used stator assm.. for that mutch

I have not tried it, I'm going off a phone call at this point. I just wanted some input if someone was familiar with it, before I found out the hard way if it's a PITA and hundreds of dollars! As I said, I've never had any spark issues with a m'cycle/ATC, but I was pretty sure you folks would have the answer.
