I was a good boy all year long, so my wife bought me a Hero Go Pro for Christmas. I just had to try it out today, in the mosty crappy weather conditions possible, freezing rain and sleet - I rode for 7 minutes in rain gear and froze!!!!!

Just a taste. will get more video on a better day to show a bit of my riding area.

I love how all helmet cam vids begin with that same "is this thing on?" shot.

Awesome video.. diggin the wheelie's down the road. I'm going to have to get one of those too. How simple or difficult are they to use? Are they just like a handheld video cam with an sd card? If it's similar to that I can handle it..

The standard def one is as simple as can be. Point and shoot basically. The files are small enough to be easy to edit. Doesn't take a very powerful computer to make nice vids.

The high definition one is a bit more complicated (more settings) but still point and shoot. The files are pretty huge though and use a format not supported by windows media player or windows movie maker so editing will not be as simple. Takes a fairly powerful PC just to view the vids.

I'll be getting a high def one before long. My current PC is pretty old though so I'm looking at building something more up to date first. Actually thinking about building a Hackintosh.

What is the longest length of time you can make one straight video? Or are you limited to the size of your sd card?

56 minutes on the standard one. That fills up a 2GB SD card. There's a firmware update available now that allows you to use a 4GB card but the max consecutive length is still 56 minutes.

Thanks for the info.. but 1 more stupid question.. How far do you trust the (suction) mount for the helmet? Have you ever had a failure of the mount, or does it hold tight? I am definitely going to have to look into this...

I think the suction cup is more for Autos. It comes with a sticky mount for your helmet that the camera removes from. The camera is much smaller than I remember.

dcreel - your link is the one I have.

I personally never use that section cup mount and don't think I could trust it on a helmet. I think that's intended more for flat surfaces like a car hood. They also come with small curved plastic mounts that attach to your helmet with double sided foam tape (industrial stuff, real strong). The camera then attaches to that base plate with a quick release clip.

I can post some pics of the mounting system when I get home if it would be helpful.

That's the right part number (GMHW5170). The kit in the picture is the right one but this ad doesn't have the word "motorsports" in it. Probably just an oversight. There's the helmet hero, motorsports hero and surf hero. The motorsports is the one you want. Comes with the most mounts. Other than the mounts though, the camera in those three kits is identical.

The suction cup is pretty strong. You just have to clean the surface really good and it should be flat. I mounted it on my stand up jet ski and it worked great, but I did put a lanyard on it in case it popped off. It always stayed on though.
