View Full Version : Jetting confusion for the YTM200 (why did they have to change carbs in 1984!!!)

Ok so I have finally figured out what year my ytm200 is, thanks to the guy that has the yellow trike avatar (thanks :)

The frame/engine serial number reads: 21V-023112

The problem is that my 1983 ytm200 engine has a carb from either the ytm200e, or from a 1984/85 ytm200 (it is the bolt on carb rather than clamp on).

According to this post: http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=46534

The jetting for the 1983 (clamp on carb) ytm200 are as follows:

"Main jet - 102.5
needle position - 3rd
Pilot jet - 35
pilot screw - 2 1/4 turns
starter jet - 65

These are for the 1983 YTM200, carb. is a Mikuni VM22 (clamp on to intake). In 1984 they switched to a VM22SH (bolts on to intake)."

And then for the 1984 ytm200 here is what is stated in that post:

"Main jet - 112.5
needle position - 3rd
Pilot jet - 25
pilot screw - 2 1/2 turns
starter jet - 85"

And guess what I found in my carb? It appears to be a mix of the wrong jets AND the wrong needle clip position etc...

According to the clymer manual that I was pointed to on this forum, it states that ALL years of the ytm200 (K,L, and N) ALL use the same exact jets!

What is the deal here? The carb changed in 1984 but yet they still use the same jets??

Here is what is in my carb:

#112.5 main jet
#20 pilot jet
needle Jet: 4L25 (clip position 2) (2nd slot down from the top)

I have the need jet from the ytm200 by the looks, but on the wrong clip position. I have a #20 pilot jet, which was specified for the 225dx, and the main jet is the one used for the ytm200er (or according to the post mentioned above, this is also used for the 1984 and 1985 ytm200??)

Lastly, the friggin air screw was screwed in ALL the way. The person that had this ATC before me obviously messed around with things quite a bit by the looks.

I have yet to run this machine (it is pretty much done now, just trying to figure out the jet situation). But if I had to guess, I would say that the jetting is probably off :(

So does anyone know what the REAL jet settings are for the 1983 ytm200 and the 1984/85 versions with the clamp on carb??

My engine is the 1983 ytm200.

The clymer manual says the jetting is exactly the same for ALL years of the ytm200, and people here say otherwise. I am very confused :(

lastly, where on earth can I possibly get jets for this carb? I have been looking for ages and I can never find ANY of the right jets; they are not even the right size. Ebay lists none; I don't know what to do at this point.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks.

Stick to the manual.

Your jets match the 225dx carb.

Check the I.D. mark on the flange, to confirm.

So should I just put in the jets that are meant for the 1983-1985 ytm200 that are specified in the manual, even though it is the clamp on version carb??

If it was mine, I'd throw it on there and then rejet.

Read this.
