I live in MN and bought a 200es. Are these things cold blooded or am i in need for adjustments? I am new to threewheelers and not sure how they are supposed to respond to the cold. I will mostly be useing it for ice fishing. Do i need to rejet? Thanks

Depends how it runs. Generally I would start clean by first having a clean carb, clean air filter, good spark plug. Then go from there.
Also alot of adjustments to throttle response down low can be fixed with just adjusting the air/fuel screw.

ANYONE with a cold start issue ought to start with a pilot one size or 2 up.
The airscrew plays a big role also: Make sure it goes screw/spring/flat washer and last a GOOD o-ring. Ensure that the order is AOK and that the o-ring doesn;t have cracks.
It really can cause crummy starting......... Even the tip getys F-D up, those guys have to be lightly bottomed and then backed out 1.5-2 turns. There ius a general rule somewhere???? that says if it has toi be backed out anymore, the pilot has to be upsized.
Even the new Thumpers, NINJA shared his thoughts with me. All the guys you see kicking and kicking while using the cold start may still benefit immensely by merely using a larger piklot jet, Can't hurt to try.........
Man, more I think of it - In the past 18 months, IU have done HUGE amount of powder coating and engine rebuilding. I think I built about 6 motors in that time and sometimes right down to the crank!
Lots of work, but very satisfied with it all, thank god mine all run as well as the economy (oops, wrong choice of words )

That is said in Spanky's Jetting Guide. It can be found here: http://www.mxnewsfeed.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=21
Scroll down about halfway.
Now is the time to determine if you have the correct pilot installed in your carb. The air screw position determines this for you, making it very simple. If your air screw is less than 1 turn from closed, you need a larger pilot jet. If it is more than 2.5 turns from closed, you need a smaller pilot jet. = Quoted from spankys jetting guide.

Ok heres the deal guys. First off thanks for the responses. New filter, new plug, just went through the carb. I had to turn my air screw out about 4 turns to get the thing dialed in. Fires right up and idles fine. My questioin is, is it bad to leave it 4 turns out or should i rejet? It also has an aftermarket pipe. Not sure what kind, i just now it is not stock. Would the aftermarket pipe make me have to rejet up or down?

most hondas are rich from the factory.. if the header is bigger than stock then a rejet may be needed, if its just a muffler than normally no..
im one of the'kick tell your numb guys'!! my 200x hates starting.. willllll not start with the choke half or full.. will only start no choke and how ever man kicks depends on its attitude.. im pretty sure my pilot is to rich ( now and then she will spit a small fire ball out of the exhaust when trying to start lol) fires right up on first kick sittin down when warmed up though

Make sure your valves are adjusted correctly also.

So do you guys think that the aftermarket pipe would affect the stock settings? If i go throuth the service manual and set everything to specs should it run ok with the aftermarket pipe? Thanks

Yes the aftermarket pipe will affect the jetting... Probably need to go up a size or two on your main jet, a clip on the needle and a little bit of fine tuning on the pilot screw... I can give you a hand if you need it...

Well i am in a bind. The aftermarket pipe does not allow for enough room for my chains that i need to get around on the lakes. I am in the process of tracking down a stock muffler. (already have the header). Does anyone now if chains will allow for enough room with the stock muffler? Thanks

You may not need to get a different muffler, you could just a set of wheel spacers... Have you gotten your BR on the ice yet? Mine goes through the snow on the ice quite well... Check these out. They are listed for a Yamaha Rhino, but the Honda runs a 4x110mm bolt patern as well...

Aftermarket mufflers are nice... Just loud..............................
Up the main a bit, air screw adjustment and your pretty close.
Drill huge holes or take of the airbox lid off and you may be surprised at the gains you have!! - Esp with a larger main jet!
Neither muffler may clear those chains.

or stud the tires... ether kold gutter ice screws.. or cheap route if your just screwin around or headin out for some ice fishing...
#8 1/2'' slotted hex head sheet metal screws... box of 100 is just under 2 bucks, get about 300-400 and stud up the tires... they suck for trying to ice race BUT work great for just screwin around

I like that idea. Never thought of spacers. That would work great. I have not had the Honda out yet. I had the thing running great(in the heated garage) for 20 min. Went out the next morning would not start. Has compression, new plug, new filter, new battary and a clean carb. seems to be getting too much gas. I am going to mess with it some more and find out what the deal is.
