Anyone ever done it? I know what I was getting myself into, cause I have had one before, but mine was rotted out.

For the 350x i built up for my buddy i welded a 2'' turn down tip on his cobra silencer and it helped a good bit.

Pack it with silencer packing and find a way to cap the end so it doesnt fly out.

Will that restrict it at all? I don't want to tune the carb., then stuff the pipe, then it will run bad because there is not enough flow?

add a spark arrestor, it actually adds power and reduces noise. You need backpressure to make low end power(which is what is mostly used on 4 strokes). I had a cobra on my 86 200x, it was so loud, annoying and lack-luster bottom end power. Spark arrestor fixed the problem.

Where you get that from?

Cobra sells it for their pipes, they call it a Sparky. It screws into the end of the pipe and/or uses a large hose clamps. Its not cheap....http://www.shopmotorcycleonlinestore.com/productdetail.htm?productId=8604964&browse=242142&shopBy=10096&catalogId=1768. I'll look at my old parts and see if I still have the sparky around, I don't remember what I did with it.

a lot of the KLR650 guys pack their big guns with fine steel wool, you never have to repack, don't know how it affects flow, but I've seen it done a lot out here.

I have these DG spark arrestor discs on my 350X:

I don't have the core that is in that picture, I just put my own "crossbar" in since my core didn't have one and I used a threaded eye hook to hook to the tab then go through the discs. When its done it looks pretty much like this but at little neater:

DG has the whole set up including the core for $40 in their close out section. I don't think they make them separate anymore but for $40 its a deal. In fact, if you measure your Cobra core I wouldn't be surprised if one of the cores with the arrestor that are in the closeout deals would fit your muffler as well. You just need to pull the core out of your set up and measure it.

I have used the Sparky set up but its just a screen more or less inside that clamp on extension. I find the DG-Supertrapp disc set up to work much better and its adjustable to boot.

If its the welded aluminum system, you can cut one end open and wrap the coew with packing. Then have it welded it back up. It wont hurt performance that way.

Thanks John, I think I am going to try your idea. I ordered the kit. I'm a welder, so I make it look right. I would have just thrown a spark arrestor on it, but it would have stuck out way past the back of my machine, and I really don't want to hack the pipe.

Great! I hope it works out for you, it works great for me and its nice to have the option of playing with the amount of discs to adjust the sound level. Just remember the more discs the louder it gets except if you remove all of them then its at its loudest.
