cam chain: how to tell if new

Also in my box of parts were two cam chains, one is obviously used so it won't be used for anything, the other looks brand new. Is there a way to tell if its used or new? Its not in a package of any sorts but looks like it was never installed. Also there was a crank and rod assembly that got really rusty. Should I clean it up or just let it go, its so rusty nothing moves.

the only way i could see for telling if the cam chain is new would be to see if theres cracks or stretched as for the crank and rod its probably shot and not even worth cleaning but thats your call

The crank bearings, and mostly the rod bearing is junk if it has rust on it. Save the crank if you need one, but it will need to be rebuilt.
