So my 350x needs the carrier bearings replaced and while i was at it i figured it would be wise to also do the actual carrier since the old one is probably worn since the bearings are so sloppy. I remember someone did this not to long ago but bought a carrier for an 86 and needed an 85. How can i tell the difference so i dont make the same mistake and also does anyone out there have any reccomendations as to where to buy one from:wondering :wondering I know ebay has them but i dont know how good that stuff is compared to what you guys might or might not have.

Thanks!
Jim

I don't think you can wear out a bearing carrier. you should only need to replace it if it has been damaged. The bearings being worn badly can damage the carrier but I would inspect it for damage before replacing it unnecasarily. just my 2 cents

i have worn out carriers and front hubs on my quads.

when you can drop the bearings in with out hammering on them they are worn out.

the 85 and 86 350x carriers are different where you ajust the chain.

the 85 has a real thin area and the 86 is wider. just get one that has the same looking ajuster area and your good.

May I suggest that you change your bearings a little sooner because that is not normal unless seriously neglected.

Talk to Seadoo650 and Keister. It was not long ago when I lived in PA that myself, bill and his buddy replaced his 350x carrier with a 250R one I believe. I remember he had to buy some other honda sprocket bolts and sprocket. Ones that were almost flush mount.

Here is an 86 carrier in and 85 350x. All you really need to do is get the allen head tapered bolts so that the bolt head doesnt hit the side of the carrier. The slight offset made getting the caliper on with the new pads but it is doable.

Maybe thats right then. Maybe it wasn't an R but an actual 86 carrier. I am not sure. But i remember helping with the swap. Ask Bill ( keister).

The other nice thing about these carriers is that they have a grease nipple so anytime you pull the axle, you can easily grease the bearings

EBAY..........

Some guys say avoid the "BOSS" carrier.

New OEM if available are not too cheap!

I would suggest Rocky Mountain.
You will pay a lil more, but if you have a problem they will be easier to resolve than a Ebay deal.
Plus if you go the 300ex carrier, you may as well order the the 86 sprocket and matching bolts at the same time from the same place.

Steve I was hoping to hear from you! Ya i mentioned ebay earlier but as Mosh mentioned to get a issue resolved might be a handful. Are there oem carreirs on ebay? Because i have never seen a nice oem one, just these billet machined ones. If not i will go with the 300ex one as Mosh has mentioned.

Thanks for the help!
