i just picked up another project..its an 86R that is for the most part complete the only problem is the swingarm..i have a really good swingarm for an 85 and my understanding is that the carriers are different and the brakes are different and thats all.. i just wanted to know what exactly the difference is...and is the shock mounts the same and where it mounts to the frame? or would it be better to find an 86 swingarm?

It's just the brake arm or bracket that changes. The calipers are identical and I believe the shocks and mounting are also from 85 to 86. The carriers difference is the 85 has notches and the 86 accepts a round dowel to adjust it.

The 85 carrier is too small in diameter for the 86 swinger.
The 86 carrier will not fit in the 85 swinger.Too large.
In other words, the carriers wont swap.

The 86 swingarm is a better set-up..
I would just get another 86 swinger.
