A KX 500 engine will fit in there fairly easily. Otherwise, the earlier liquid KX 250 were the closest to the tecate. 83-84 I believe, then the KX's switched to the powervalve motor, found in 85-86 KX's and the 86-87 tecate. The KX motor ran up to 87, then changed design again in 88-89. Im not sure how much more different they are. Here is an interchange between the two link. I think $50 would be a great start to a nice tecate. You can always buy parts here and there when you can, and is MUCH better than starting from nothing but a bare frame with no pieces. Good luck, and its a shame he is using good parts off a tecate for some crappy go-kart that will break in a couple days. http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=94809&highlight=kx+interchange

Its worth 50 bucks I paid $200 for my roller, if it helps the calipers and rotors for the front and rear are the same(84-85). The master cylinders are different and the brake line length is different. If you need parts let me know I have a few things.

The 84 is drum brakes, 85 is disk. So the 84 and 85 front brakes are not the same. However, they are completely interchangable with respect to the forks.

I'm pretty sure the fork lowers are different between the 84 and the 85 as well. The drum and disc mounts are different.

Reread the post man. The calipers are the same on the front and the back and so is the rotors. That is what he said.

not true. besides a 83-84 kx250 engine, nothing will fit without frame alterations and a custom pipe.

The calipers are not the same on the front and back because the 84 is DRUM brake. The 85 is DISK brake. The 85 calipers may be the same within the same machine, but thats not what this was about.

Um I have 3 calipers that have the k on the side of them and yes the rotors and calipers are the same. The 84 has drum up front and disk in the rear.

I guess i read his post wrong the entire time...

I guess what he said can be taken a couple different ways. I thought he was saying the front caliper on the 84 is the same as an 85. Which its not cuz the 84 doesnt have front. I guess he was saying the rear of the 84 is the same as the front of the 85.

Hmm. All this time i thought they were the same. Does the 84 model have the k on the side? Someone must have upgraded mine to the 85 caliper.

God why would he take the engine out of that......to put in a go cart? Doesn't make sense to me.

well ok, lets set the record straight on the differences of the 84 and 85 t3 brakes set up. the 84 is drum up front. the 85 is disc up front. if you would liek to swap the brake system, you will need the lower fork tubes as well, seeing is how the drum is held in place by a tab protruding off the fork on the 84 model. the 85 models caliper is also held on the bike by bolting up to the fork tube. so you would need that fork tube so you can bolt the caliper up. as for the rears they are different between the two years as well. the disc is the same yes, but the caliper and mounting bracket are different between the years. the 84 is a tad bit smaller then the 85. also on the 85 yes you can swap the front and rear calipers around, they are the same.

motors, believe its already been said, but the kx 500 motor will not bolt right in, some hefty frame mods are needed. search biggreenmachine, he has/ had a kx500 in an 84/5 frame. i havent been on here in so long i have no clue of if he still has it. besides the 83/4 kx250 motor dropping in, i cant think of many more that will, remember the single downtube and angles exhaust port..

k, well been awhile since i posted, so there. whats up 3ww?

im not sure.... but beleve me it pisses me off!! if someone wants to use quad parts use something easy to find like 300ex stuff or dirt bike stuff now ruin a complete machine to build a stupid go cart!!! i have tried to reson with him more than once and he has his mind set on using the t3 motor for a freakin go cart..

as far as brakes.. it dont matter to me as long as it will stop... older kx250 motor should all be that hard to find

That would be a better option for a gokat IMO. Who needs a 250+cc in a gokart? lol
