on my friends bike, after he ran it for a while, the airbox ended up full of oil... what would cause something like this?

Is the oil only in the airbox? Is there oil at the bottom of the carb bell?

never checked the carb yet... what would it be if the carb has oil in it also?

Breather thats plugged up, causing too much crankcase pressure...

Oil in the airbox could be from an over oiled air filter. And if the air filter is that oiled up, you could get excess oil in the carb too.

there was too much oil in the airbox for it to be runoff from the filter. It was like 3/8ths full

Over filling the engine will cause the engine to spit excess oil out of the crankcase vent tube. Clean it out, check fluid level and keep an eye on it. If it returns it could be something more serious such as a cracked piston skirt or broken sleeve causing blowby.
