So ever since I got my 350x the 200x has been neglected....I listed it for sale and started it up the other day and it backfired and died....Now it won't start....My guess is either that the timing is too advanced or retarded...Am I correct? What could cause a good running 200x to backfire, die then not start? I got a guy coming to look at it tomorrow and I'd like it to run like it used to. Just my luck eh? :wondering

Do you still have spark? if so It could possibly be a case of skipped timing chain.

It is possible, I'll check that when I get home

Nope I figured it out, I went home and took the CDI off to find out the bolt that holds the CDI onto the camshaft had backed off (I forgot to torque it a few weeks ago....) and the dowel pin popped out. I put it all back together and torqued everything down, started up first kick and ran fine!

That little bitty pin pisses me off sometimes. I'll think its something huge and come to find out its a sheered pin, or like you said it comes out from the center bolt being loose. I made my own when i sheered mine off.
had the same problem on my 200m I felt both stupid and happy when I took the cover off and saw that pin...

glad ya fixed it. yea that bolt is a pain! I liek to use some RTV on the threads of the bolt before installing it (just a tiny bit figer smeered so there's jsut hardly any there) so it holes the bolt from backing out so easly. I had one back out even after torqueing it.

Yeah, me too. It deserves some red loctite for safe measure. The timing advance mechanism in those things is 90$ if you break the little ears off.... which is VERY easy if you snap that pin. Ive had the center bolt completely snap off inside the cam, theyre aluminum bolts (i think) or REALLY weak steel.. I fixed that with a grade 8 bolt though.

it's weak steel. i use rtv cuse red locktite is harder to get out and the steel bolt factory is so weak i have seem then break off deep inside and then have to be drilled out the cam, or replace the cam. rtv just acts like a viberation dampner to help keep the bolt form viberating and backing out.
I usually order a new bolt to repacle the old one when I install NEW cams. it's soft so you don;t strip the cam out when torqueing.

For a front tire theres really only 1 tire that will do the job, and do it well. Thats a kendra front max.
for rears theres lots of options. Personally i would try to get ahold of some fast trekkers..... If not goto the next best imo, ITP holeshot. Steer clear from razrs.

I had new holeshots on the 200x I sold today but they were 8's and the rims they were on were beat up. Link to the best place to get holeshots that fot a stock 85 350x rim? What's the best size for my stock rims?

I always like the OEM Ohtsu tires, if you can find em. I found a brand new set on Ebay about 2 years ago. Don't know if there are any still around
