:w00t:
had an inside line on these, both had been stored for around 10 years. petcock on the 350 leaks the o ring musta dried out (the fuel was drained) it started on the 3rd kick. the 250 needs tires bad (thats why its on the pail) it got a new plug and started on the 6th kick.
cant wait to go through them and ride them.:D

Very nice finds. Did you find them together or at separate places? What is the story? They look sweet!

same spot in a machine shop back on some shelves.
a guy i work with used to work at the machine shop and hooked me up big time!
what can you all tell me about the 250? they look like 2 piece rims, any other things i should look for? the rims are also a 3 hole bolt pattern that looks alien to me lol. i guess it had a fresh top end put in just before it was parked and has plenty of compression. i am going to drain the fuel and start with fresh fuel and amsoil mix. can i get away with less than 20:1 mix with the newer synthetic oil?
love this chit!

I really not try not to do just one-liners like "that's cool" or such but i gotta tell ya, that IS cool.
Good for you scrawny ! That is what our dreams are made of :)
what ever you paid, it don't much matter to me, just a great find.

Awesome I love those 1st gen R's. I had a chance to pick up a roller with the engine in a box for $150 but I resisted as I have enough projects lol

:beer two awsome scores!! they both look great aside from the obvious! I would love to find a first gen r in that condition. I love how honda just went crazy with the red! They just look so simple and raw!! not much to make them perfect!

Great score. Looks like an 81 atc250r. So the 3 bolt wheels would be the 3x100 pattern same as the late model atc90, the early model 110s and the early 185s. I always have had a soft spot for the wide tire trikes and I remember when those first hit the dealer floors, or should I say vanished from the dealer floors. They were the beginning of the modern atc and factory beginning of the dealer performance machines. A real classic. The 350x is also a very nice trike, but really the next generation of machine after the 81 and 82 250r let alone it being 4 stroke. You have done very well. Best of luck with your new finds.

WOW! Thats all I can say too. I have never cared for the first years 250rs but if I had one that clean and could keep it all OEM stock, I think I could add it to my listing! That sucker looks great and keep it the way it is. If you can find a tire very similar to what stock is, I would do that and use it to putt around minor triails.

Nice score! And yes you can use 40:1 with the newer oils with no problems. The 20:1 was recommend in the 80s for these machines. The oils have changed so much since then.

you want to make sure you get some good tires on that 250R- and probably the 350 also. I think most peple here would reccommend a tire called the "trail pro"
everyone has them and they are pretty much the best tire ever made

i will get some more pics after i get tires on the R, i have a petcock on a parts fat cat that looks like it should work just fine. the tires i ordered are duro non-dimple knobbies that looked pretty close. the tires on the 350 will be just fine for a few more years.
i took these pics with my phone as i was super stoked and had to get some of them quick, the camera will come out when the machines are mobile. :D

got new tires!! duros that might run a little shorter than the original 22"ers, had to run the 2 rears at a little different tire pressures to keep them the same size. they should even out the more i ride it. the front caliper wont come off with the line attached, you have to take the hub out of the front wheel and the caliper stays with the disc. original tool kit is where it should be.
the clutch was stuck so i had to take it apart and clean the metals off with scotchbrite. they are pitted so i dont know how long the fibers will last, i was suprised to be able to peel them apart without ripping them off. the machine must have been in deep water before it was stored, the "oil" in the tranny was mostly water. i changed it twice and will prolly have to change it more.
it really runs great though! powerband is all low end and mid range with an abrupt end at the top end. frame is SOOo small and flickable, slide-wheelies are way fun on this short little frame that doesnt feel any bigger than a 185s.
cant wait to ride it for an afternoon as it is ready@@:beer
