hi
iam restore my honda 1985 atc 70 iam starting to install the rear axle bearing;s:w00t: but before i do . i have just the frame right now would it be better to install the rear frame axle bearings with a hydraulic press and not hammer them in a a socket i have a bearing/ race tool but them are some hard bearings to get in :wondering and out.
iam a newbie would anyone know if they would go in better with a press thank's

they should go back in easy if the frame race that holds them is clean. Use a wire wheel and some sandpaper to get it clean, use some grease on both parts and tap them in, I use wood. good luck.

thats exactly how i do mine,i have a nice piece of wood thats the exact size of the bearing.very important to clean out and deburr the race's

You can also freeze the bearings before you install them. This will make them just slightly smaller in diameter and may slip right in. Make sure the surface that the bearings are going into is clean also.

im about to do mine also, i just punched the old ones out and them suckers were in there. i will try some of the tricks recommended.

I normally use a socket that is the same size as the outer race and tap it in.
