I've been thinking of replacing my rims on my 86 250 SX. Do I need to replace them with 250 SX rims or will other rims fir my bike? If so which ones. I was thinking of painting them put they are chewed up a little.

250sx rims have a weird rim to fit over the brake drum. I think you could just get 9" rims and tires and they would fit over fine. 8" won't fit unless you have some type of axle extenders. As for painting, I would sandblast them and powdercoat them. It will look the best and last the best.

In general anything with 4/110 bolt pattern will fit, which is most of Honda, but they are available in different sizes, 8", 9", etc. and different widths. Also I think the 250sx has a rear brake drum that kind of fits inside the rim, and if so, you cant go any smaller than 9" rims and clear the drum housing.

Well the tires on there now say 22x11x8. What is what in this size. Does this mean my rims are 8 inches? I measured the diameter and it measures around 8 1/2 inches. Sorry about all the questions but i haven't owned an ATC since 1985 when i had a 185s.

Yes, this mean you have 8" rims at the bead. The 22" is the total height of the tire, and the 11" is the width of the tire. Your rims are probably 9x8 meaning 9" wide, 8" at the bead. I think stock rims are steel for that one. Personally, Id look for some OEM aluminum from a 250r or something. They are a lot more durable than any aftermarket aluminum. If you have 8" now, any 8" or 9" should work out fine.

So you think 200X or 250R wheels would have the same bolt pattern. I'd really like to get some alluminum rims. They make the bike look so much better.

The 200x and the 250r are 4/110 bolt pattern. How ever I know the 85 250sx uses what they call a large bell style rim. What this means: The inside of the rim on the Hub side is actually bigger than the normal 200x or 250r rims are. To use such rims you probably will have to use hub spacers.
On the 86 250sx's you might be able to bolt the 200x / 250r rims right up. I haven't owned a complete 86-87 250sx in so long ( Brain fart also )that I can't say for sure.
Look up some new rear rims for the sx and see what the rim part number is. Then look up the 200x rim part numbers and see if they match. If they do you have a better idea. ;)
I hope this helps.

jdulac, don't know how much difference there is between '85 and '86-'87,but got my aluminum rims for my '85 from rockymountainatv.com . They're .190 Douglas alum rims w/22x11x10 Fast-Trekkers($180.00 shipped to my door). I have 3" hub extenders on so I could probably have gotten 8" but went with 10" in case I took the extenders off.As stated above you need something to fit over the rear drum. The extenders are great, make the trike very stable. Got mine off e-bay,but jlatvproducts.com has 2 1/2" ones in their cat.
Here's pics! 8)

btw-don't go with anything smaller than 22's. I tried a set of 20's on mine and lost so much top end felt like I was missing 5th gear! sx's are geared low enough!

Those won't work for your 250sx. Those are for the front of a quad. The bolt pattern is 4/155 ( I think ).
