I put new rings in my 83 Honda 185s over the weekend and for the past three nights I have been battling the fuel system to get it to idle down. It idles at almost full speed. I checked the linkage for the throttle and made sure the throttle is lowering all the way. The throttle stop screw and adjustment screw on the front don't make any difference to the idle speed. I can even take them out and nothing changes. Choke on or off doesn't make much difference. I checked for air leaks in front of the carb. Starts on the first pull every time. Runs great, just almost wide open, when I hit the throttle it revs even higher, doesn't cut out. No gas leaks, no smoke. What is going on? Is something clogged up in the carb?

is the overflow on the carb cloged? i dont really know what to tell ya except for that. just for sh$ts and giggles i would tear the carb off and throw it back on and see what happens maybe you will luck out
the carburetor on Hondas aer pretty simple, I dont know your mechanical ability but if you are even semi mechanical I would take off the carb get a can of carb clean and take the whole thing apart and clean it, Chances are pretty good if you needed rings the carb also probably has some crap in it from over the years.

I sure feel stupid. I guess my linkage is screwed up. If I remove it completely from the carb then it idles fine. If I put it back on it then back to fast idle. So I guess it isn't wanting to return all the way. Must have a kink in it or something holding it up.

Probably the routing of the cable... (I am guilty of doing that once...)
