Curious what the difference is. I have a cracked 85 bezel. Its the bike I actually ride. Im looking to get a new one but cant seem to find one. I was curious how different the 86' is from the 85. Can you mod it to work or no way? Also is anyone making repro metal headlight guards for the 85/86?

Thanks for any help!!

The '86 headlight lens is way bigger than the 85's. You can swap complete headlight & garnish back & forth between the 85 & 86, but an 85 headlight lens will not work in an 86's garnish or vice versa.

How does the 86 bigger lens work compared to the 85? I have an 85, and I have no idea if the bulb is anything but stock, but I have yet to see any stock atv light work better than that one. It's amazing. I had a bad night dune experience a while ago, but my last dune trip to St Anthony I had to go help friends out in the dunes at night and man my 85 250r light rocks. Wondering if the 86 is even better.

Dammit!

Wider lens = wider beam. The stock bulb is ten watts brighter if I remember right too but somebody might have switched yours out already. Stock 86 is 55/60 watts. Pretty sure stock 85 is 45/50.

You can swap it out with a Silverstar bulb at any car parts store. That's what I run. Bright as hell.

a 85 bezel is made by maier, its not advertised on many places. Last time I looked it was on the website.

An 86-87 200x headlight lens will bolt directly into an 86r bezel. IMO the 86r had a better headlight than the 85. It also looks better too.

So I can get a new 86 bezel no problem. I suppose the question is are the guts for the 86 hard to find? They just plug into the 85 no problem?

If its that much better it may be worth the lens upgrade as I ride at night alot. Esp in the winter on the lake. I suppose I could always go with the maier and stock lense. Im thinkin would like it to get oem 86' setup though.

I don't think it's worth it honestly. Upgrade the bulb and be done with it. You get a little wider beam with the 86 but if you do any serious night riding, it's not really much of an upgrade. A better way to go would be with an aftermarket dual light setup that gives you not just brighter lights but a much larger light pattern. The hot setup is dual round lights (6 inch or larger), one with a floodlight lens, the other with a "pencil" (spotlight) lens.

I've got two of them but have yet to install them on anything. I need to because the older I get, the more blind I'm getting.

Here's what they look like (just sitting on there in the pics. Never wired them up). I'll probably install a set on my 350x real soon.
