Looking for help on my 84 200es, bought from a friend who had left it set for a year or so with bad gas. Unable to revive carb so I bought a new one and installed, started right a way and idles perfect! At about half throttle it starts to sound like a two stroke, misses pops cracks no power. (new spark plug) I have downloaded a manual but that has not been much help. I have removed the muffler, seems to be plugged, also couldn't get the spark arrester out to clean it. I am really at a loss as to what I should do next. Any help would be great!!!! I hope I am posting this in the right place as I am new to this site. Thanks in advance, Bill.:wondering

I wasn't able to check compression, my set doesn't have the correct adapter. (Snap-On automotive set) It appears to have good compression, starts very quickly, idles perfect, although when I removed the new plug it was already loaded with carbon. I cleaned it and checked valve adjustment and they were tight. Adjusted valves, still same problem. It starts cutting out at about half throttle, when you go full throttle it sounds like its on a rev limiter.

have you checked the air filter? (you most likely have), are you sure you bought the right size carb, it might be putting out too much gas

I believe it's right, same size, spec for 84 200es, air filter is removed.

Did you buy one of those chinese knock off carbs ? If so It might need to be jetted for your motor .

Probably, came from Ebay. Any way to check to see what jet it has?

thhe jets should have tiny numbers printed on them atleast my honda ones do. another thing you can do is clean the oem jets well and use them

Thanks! I'll try this, I believe the jet should be a 95?

If its idling fine dont mess with the pilot jet. Try to salvage your old main jet from the bad carb or at least get the number off of it and match it with a new one. Ill be thats your problem.

sounds like the main jet to me also. if that don't fix it i do know of another thing that it could be but it is very uncommon. try the jet first and we will go from there.

Put your airbox and air filter back on... The lack of restriction often makes them run lean...
