I just pick up a 85 atc 125,it runs but the trans is shot.(i think, hard to shift gears)anyway i saw a lifan 125 with ele start and a semi-auto trans. Is this a direct bolt in?how about the electrical system, can i use the honda wire harness?what about power is the lifan as good as the honda?i'm a little leary about the china motor, but i'm kinda limited.I would like to rebuild my honda but in feb. 09 I lost the use of 60% of my hands and a leg and its kinda hard to do that kinda work.I do not want to give up riding trikes so i thought a china replacement might do the trick.what do you all think.

From what I understand, the china motors have a different bolt pattern than the 90/110/125 motors, but i dont know if they will bolt up or not. As far as power goes, I think it would be about the same.

the Lifans are a different pattern , it is not a "bolt up", but you could make it work

You can buy an adapter like edog did when he put that engine in the atc90 frame. Or you can drill different holes. The lifan is based on the atc70,z50 engine cases and it is smaller than an atc90/110/125 engine.

no actually, i have delt with a few lifans, most forward piston engines have the rear and top mounts, which are all identical, honda yamaha suzuki kawasaki lifan, heck you could put a crf 50 engine in there if u wanted to!

If its just hard to shift, have you tried adjusting the auto-clutch, and run some good motorcycle grade oil in it. The tranny on my Trail 90 was terrible to shift when I first got it running, it had sat for 10 years. Changed the oil a lot, almost every ride, then once it cleaned out in there started running Valvoline 10W40 motorcycle grade oil, it shift great now. Also if the idle is too high it made it harder to shift, that was just on mine.

I certainly wouldn't give up on a Honda to swap in a Lifan when all that's wrong is being hard to shift. Have you sprayed at crap out of all the pivot points on the machine with a penetrating oil of your choice. If it goes through all the gears the tranny should be fine internally. I would suspect the clutch might not be releasing enough. It will be a lot less work to make it's engine shift good.

Before anyone adds to this I looked at the top and this thread is really old......

OH HELL NO THEY ARE NOT!!!!! you can not bolt a lifan directly into a atc90/110/125... it will not directly bolt in.... i have been installing lifans for years!!!! your dead wrong, bad info,,,,

Kasey is right, the chinese (lifan) engines are based on the Honda 70. The Honda 90 , 110 , and 125's are a larger motor and will NOT bolt up. I'm not sure if the power of the smaller 125cc can compair to a larger 125cc. Maybe someone can chime in on this one.
