Hello, I just picked up this Yamaha tri moto 175. I dont know much about it at all, it runs but takes about 20 pulls to get it going. there's a oil hole with a plug on the right side of the engine, when I open it, it has oil residue in it but no oil resting in the bottom. Im afraid to ride it, fearing this may be trans oil or or whatnot??? Please let me know what oil should be in here or if its fine the way it is, Thanks

You shouldn't ride it untill you've checked the oil level. If you do a search on this site you should be able to download a manual for your trike. this will tell you how to check the oil. If its hard to start the engine you probably want to start by cleaning the carb and checking the airfilter. again your better off using a manual before you get stuck in.

You need to go to the search feature towards the top of the page and you can type yt175 or trimoto 175 in and it should give you tons of information that is listed on the site. To get your oil up to proper level, you would dump a quart of oil into the plug that unscrews on the left side of your engine. Then there is a certain bolt you remove and if the oil is too high, it will drain down to the proper level through that hole with the bolt that you just unscrewed which is also on the right side of your engine. For basic maintenances, if you use the manual for the same year yt125, you should be in good shape. The only bits that won't be in there is the info for the suspension front end and the specs for your 175 parts, other than that, everything is pretty much the same. Good luck. Sounds like you need at least a new spark plug and to maybe clean up your carb and you should at least be able to start it easier and go from there.

Here's a link to where you can pick up a repair manual for cheap.
