Well I just put together my X, and starts first kick but has no power. With a pinion it's not even ridable. I have a microfiber cloth acting as my air filter atm, because the lcoal bike shop has given me the wrong filter the past two times.

choke is all the way down, correct?

you can use a trx250x air filter, that all I used for mine. a 300ex might use the same filter also.

It's gonna be lean as crap with moms pantyhose on there..... Esp if the choke isn't on, you may need full choke just to run it.

Don't ruin your hard work or dollars!!, it started so - GOOD SIGN!!

Take an ATC70 as an example, they run like dogchit without an airfilter, just ask DEEPA :D

Choke is all the way up as FULL CHOKE not off choke. Hes correct by leaving it down for riding.

Up = Choke
Down = Off choke
Middle = Half choke

Easy way to tell is look inside the body of the carb and flip the choke lever. Butterfly closes = choke.

Not to make fun or down on you but is it timed right? I rebuilt my 350x with a 12:1 piston and forgot the cam chain tensioner and it came out of timing it started just fine but had no power at all. One tooth makes a huge difference. Fixed the timing and it runs awesome.

I got it running good! The micro-fibre cloth I used was too restrictive so i put a piece of a white tee and it ran great.

Bad thing, my bad tire lost air right before i got home, I also had my girlfriend with me. Well it was too much for the slopy chain to take, and it kepy popping off. Luckily with one person it was much better, I just "putted" the rest of the way. I knew I had too get a new chain, I just didn't think it was that bad.

Edit: I did check my timing and it was off a tooth, but it still ran the same before i changed the "filter". Plug is showing it's still running rich, so time for a carb tune. Gotta fix my ebay account so no real filter yet.
