Running a 84-85 70. Carb is spotless, valve lash just set. Point Gap is at .014 which seems to be the best Played quite a bit with it.. Idle mixture is at just about 1 1/2 turns out. Trike runs idles good. Spark plug seems pretty good. Coffee w/ cream colored. Maybe a little bit lean. 2nd and 4th seem to BANG OUT (almost like a REV limiter) at top end of the only 2nd and 4th like its missing unless i ride a couple of miles, (usually to my buddys down the road) when engine seems to really heat up it runs perfect. Seems like when the motor is really hot it REVS all the way out it runs like 40mph (Wife chased me in the car). Otherwise its about 25-30mph. I also have messed with the needle height. Right now I am running on the 4th groove down. Played with 3rd and 5th groove no help. Any other suggestions to make it more consistent?

Timming, and check your gas cap vent

Whats the best way to test the gas cap vent?

You can put a small air pressure or vacuum by the hose, pressure should be released by the cap when the vent is in "ON" position.Don't forget to plug the second hose is you test it on a model with the petcock on the carb....
Habitually when a cap is completly plugged you will not run for a long time before it die...
