My rope pulls with no tension except the spring and recoils fine but thats it? I havent taken it apart yet because I cant get the bolts out. Any help with either? I heard from someone that it is probably the dog ear broke? Does this sound right? As far as the bolts go, would I be better to try and heat them to remove or start with something like an impact driver? Thanks in advance!

I used a impact driver.

As far as the easy pull that could be right, or maybe the cage came loose/broke . For the bolts i would not use air tools. Remember the case is either aluminum or sh*t white metal and WILL strip causing more problems than you want. I say PB blaster and heat good luck:beer

an impact driver, the kind you use with a hammer is an atc's best friend.as for you easy pull problem could be what has been said, but have to open her up to find out.

i second the impact driver( the hammer type) not an impct gun. due to the fact it puts rptationg pressure on the bolt, and it shocks the bolt when you hit it also and usualy willbreak the bolt loose after a few good whacks. this is a verry indespencible tool in my tool box

i would guess your recoil pawls are still there but rather the springs are missing in action that keep them opening and closing properly

just soak the bolts in good ole WD-40. I havent had a problem taking any of mine off. It may be because im related to superman though....

My 225 had the same problem with the recoil starter. The plastic cage that holds the little tab that kicks out was worn. The little tab would stick in, and I would have to pull the cover off again to free it. Really hard to explain cause I dont know the actual name of the parts. I had to drill out the screws. No biggie, they took no effort to remove once the head was drilled off.
