I have a 1980 YT125 that's blowing more blue smoke out the tailpipe than any thing I've ever seen. I'm running 24:1 mix and I've heard most people remove the premix tank on the 2 strokes.
Is it safe to do on this model? Or should I just leave the tank full and run straight fuel?

You can block off the oil injection, remove the tank and run premix... Thats what I did on my Zinger...

What do you use to block off the oil?

I took the oil pump apart and used a bolt and locknut with a rubber washer, tack welded the nut to bolt and for extra good measure followed by sealing with epoxy... (probably wicked overkill)

Thanks for helping me out Thorpe.

No problem... With a good quality 2 stroke oil, I would feel pretty safe running it at a 40:1 ratio... Thats what I am doing with my Zinger (amsoil)

That seems pretty lean on the lube? Do you run that ratio in all your 2 stroke engines (weed wacker, leaf blower etc.)?

Yep... No problems... My ice auger runs the best getting it leaned out a bit... But the amsoil says you could run at 100:1, but I just cant do that....
