Cam chain tensioner

Ok trike is a 82 ATC 200 frankentrike. I CANNOT get it to work, i have the repair manual and i follow the instructions to a T. But she dont work for me, figure there is an issue with the tensioner itself. I idle it, and back the one bolt out but nothing happens. i tried it and took the CDI and everything out till i got to the cam sprocket and chain and its still loose? Makes noise topend, i have a donor motor i have been using to compare. anyone chime in and give me some advise? im at my wits end with this damned thing....

I have the same trike. I just did mine the other day, it was making some serious noise. As the motor is idling, loosen the NUT not the BOLT on top. The bolt head will turn with the nut. As soon as it loosens the tesioner will adjust on its own and all should be quiet.

Have you checked your valve adjustments?

That is just plain hilarious, i never thought of that. dear god am i dum, talk about a noob mistake. FLAME ON!!!

I will be checking the valve adjustments hopefully tomoro night.
