Yes as long as the plugs match up with the tecates. I used an 87-89 KX250 CDI on my 87 tecate and works fine.

So I just put on a new Ricky stator and flywheel on my 86 and I have fire one minute and not the next. So I may need a new CDI or coil. Does this mean that I have to have one of these specifically made for my 86 tecate and I cannot mix and match from a KX?

You cant mix match kx with kxt. One or the other! 1983 to 1986 Kx250 ignitions only will work on the Tecate, but you will need the complete system. If you are using a Ricky stator then it is kxt.
