Here is a little teaser of what's been going on at my shop. I stripped everything and started from scratch. Not done yet but this is where I stand as of now. It's taken a month or so to get this far, I hope it doesn't take much longer, I am getting anxious to ride her. That's a 350x triple set on there. Here are a couple of before and afters:

HOLY!! Before and after Batman!!
I like that red frame ALLOT!! I also wanted to do an SXD with a white frame and red or black plastics :)
I saw the 1st pic that said "this is where I'm at so far" and I had to restrain myself :D
THEN, I saw the next picture :w00t:
Nice job bud!! I know the SX very well, feel free to shoot me an email and we can talk on the phone or something if you need any help.
Looking super fantastic as of now though.................

did you use paint or powder for the engine?

I always liked the red frame look of the 350x so I went that route, my tank will be white and I think I am going to go with white fenders and a blue seat.

I used some VHT engine paint in a rattle can but I did something different, I shook the can up real good then I punched a hole in the top of the can to release all of the propellent. After the propellent was gone I poured all the paint out of the can into a paint mixing cup and let it sit for about an hour to let some of the solvents evaporate out of it, I wanted it to thicken up a little bit, stirred it every 5 minutes or so, you could see the thinner just bubbling up out of that crap in the cup. I then poured the paint in my harbor freight $14.95 gravity feed spray gun and let er rip.

It looked rough to me also when I got it, but the more I got into it I discovered that it was in great shape mechanically it just looked like hell. When I got it I didn't care about the fenders, front tire, seat cover or tank paint because I knew all that was going to be replaced anyway.

Jeez, I would never have believed that the chassis and engine in the second photo once belonged to the junk heap in the first. Great job, man. Keep going.

Good eye! I removed it, mainly because I dont plan on running the stock airbox and I thought it was ugly with that pipe sticking out an inch or so, if I do wind up running the stock airbox I'll run it with no lid so I fiured I didn't need to run that tube up there. I don't plan on dropping this thing in any real deep bog holes so water is not a concern. I bought a new Mikuni tm32 flatslide carb for it and I have a Cobra exhaust on the way.

Was the white headlight usable? I know nice ones are hard to come by. Did it cleanup decent?

Awesome! What did you do to cover up the hole once you hacked it off? Please post more pics. Is anything powdered?

It does not have any cracks or splits in it but the sun has gotten to it pretty good. I have not tried to clean it up yet. I plan on building a Baja light set up with either twin 4" or 7" hid's. that might take a little while though so I'll probably be riding with no light up there for a while.
userj8670: about the tube I cut off. I cut off everything that protruded from that area of the frame, then I heated up the edges with a torch and carefully rounded them back in as to give it some geometric strength. there is still a hole there, it's just that nothing sticks out anymore. It allows insertion and removal of the carb from the top a breeze.

Nice, i'm in the same boat, but i'm not going to your extreme. I want to be able to ride the hell out of trike again.

Oh I am going to ride the hell out of, you can believe that, I just won't be dropping it off in the swamps around here. This will be set up for trail riding not mud bogging.
