going to order some new ones, and am confused by the double part # with diff sizes, are they 8x40, or 8X22. the 8x40 are 3 times as much, so they are probably the ones. Can anyone clear this up!! Thanks

He bud, they MUST be the 8-40....
I know they stick out the head at least 1 - 1.25" which is 25 or 30mm give or take PLUS the portion that threads into the head.
I buy super long SS bolts, cut the heads off and make them up myself so I KNOW I can get them out again.
I don't know if I bought a bag of 25, if I did, I'll give up 4 :D I know when I 1st ordered them I F'd up and got zinc plated and I was like NO!! I WANT STAINLESS!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, the stainless are much stronger huhh? if you have any left let me know.

It's not even neccesarily the strength, it's more the "thank christ I can get the prick off again"
They don't break, they corrode and snap. Regardless, even with the flange on the header being roughly 10mm thick, they header mounting plates bend when you really try and sock down onto those exhaust manifold bolts.
I ride, I ride hard, I need my chit to stay together :D
I think I had to buy fully threaded 50mm studs, near positive I have the zinc ones, not so sure about Mr. Stainless though.......
I may be stuck with a bag of really long zinc bolts and just a few SS ones.
I'll poke around, or remind me at my email please.

Not sure if its cheaper than the dealer, but it's stainless, cut to the correct length, instock, and you'd probably have it in a few days! Just an Idea, I usually don't put anything back together unless it's w/ SS. You can also order SS nuts and lock washers there as well. One perk is I have it @ my disposal @ work! :D Like DC said, I like to know I have a good shot at it coming back apart with ease. 90% of the hardware on my car in my avatar is SS.
Only b!tch about SS in aluminum is if it gauls--- your F'd, re-tap all the holes, use lube on the threads when inserting it. Or drill, helicoil(SS thread inserts), and your set!

looks like a cool site, keep that in mind. would you just get them fully threaded, or do you now the exact measurements. the cheaper stainless is good no? $ and change aint bad, but 10.00 is steep for the 316.

The 18-8 would be fine. If Honda's Microfische is correct they're M8 Thread X 40MM Over All Length (8X40) Mabey DC or someone can confirm the size and thread pitch.
Here is the Partially threaded, But those but you 10MM over in length AND ***NOT STAINLESS*** (probably not a deal breaker)

And here is the fully threaded in stainless

Get fully threaded.
Screw OEM or hardware stores if you are like me and plan on keeping trikes until you can't ride them.
Even on my truck, I switch to SS on any parts that get heat. It always seems to help :D
They may not be inexpensive, BUT, I personally LOVE having extra fastners, collars, seals, orings, clamps, hose, setscrews etc etc as it saves me from searching every friggin time I need something...

whats the best way to get the studs out, I was glad to get the caps off without incedent. With the studs I feel i'm playing with fire!! 3 of the 4 are in good shape the other has some serius pitting close to the head. Only thing I can think of is double nutting them, and turning them out. What is usually more frozen, the caps to the studs, or the studs to the head!!

2 of the 4 of my studs broke. was able to put pliers on 1 and had to weld a nut to the next one. it broke the first time but welded the nut on again and got it to twist out. I was really hoping i wasnt guna hafta drill out out. good luck.
