What are the tools in the tool kit coated with. Is it zinc or nickle? There is a place across the street from where i work that does all sorts of replating and chroming and the like. I got all the tools in my tool kit but they have definatly corroded from all the moisture sitting in the bag.

Thanks!
Jim

zinc if i remember correcty, but if you can get them cleaned and chromed then that's better as it will last longer.

How would you go about cleaning them? I figured some steel wool but its not working so great. I thought about sand blasting them since they were going to get refinished anyway. Also what would the alan keys be coated with?

I have some old pipe wrenches from my grandfather that were rusty. I used the wire wheel on my bench grinder to clean them up and sprayed them with WD-40.

A wire wheel didnt scratch the hell outta them? I will have to try that perhaps.

Actually, as long as the wire wheel isn't too stiff, that's the way to go. I just used a wire wheel on the handlebars on my ATC110 and they cleaned up VERY well. There is small pitting where the rust spots used to be, but it looks TONS better.

No. I used a medium wire wheel. They turned out way better than I would have thought. These are old, black (maybe iron?) wrenches. Saved myself from buying new ones, all I cared about.

X3 On the Evaporust--- two words "DA BOMB"

Then you can use a brass bristle brush like a brass tooth brush.

AutoZone and Tractor Supply carry it, that I know of. Tractor Supply sells it in a bigger quantity, so it's cheaper in the long run.

In fact, as long as the steel wheel is not too hard, it was a way to go. I just handle with a wire wheel, and they told me the ATC110 clean very well. Where there was a small corrosion rust, but it looks tons better.
